Yao was fouled, but he was not tackled. More like tripped. Tackle would be what Bob SURA did in the playoffs against the Mavs.

I didn't read the NBA rules. After I watched the video, I am not sure whether big Z strip the ball first or not. However, in common sense, even Z stripped the ball from Yao before actually touch Yao's body, I don't think NBA will allow him to trip Yao in that way. There was a foul definitely. If the league allows this to happen, the guys who like to attack basket will be in danger. You can't say that you touch the ball first so you can hurt the player. That is a dangerous foul. But I don't think Z intentionally try to hurt Yao, but he did intentionally trip Yao down since it is the only way to stop him. It should be called a flagrant foul. The league needs to send the signal to all the players that this is a dangerous play and not allowed in this league.

Agreed. If the league allows this to happen, every basketball player will become
a soccer goalkeeper, while the ground the other players fall onto is not grass but
hard wooden floor. Really scary, indeed!

Here's something to think about, lets say a player is driving to the hoop and gets his shot blocked clean, but after the blocked shot, the shot blocker collides with the shooter and knocks him down. Do you call the foul? This is essentially the same play but with a block.

 How is that the same play? If you are driving to the hoop and someone tackles your leg and you call that a clean block shot?

If anybody stupid enough to think it is a dirty play, he never plays a game, he
spend all his life on watching.

Dirty or not, it was a foul.
And that is what these all about.
You don't have to call them stupid.

    Oh, a missing "not" here!

If anybody stupid enough to think it is not a dirty play, he never plays a game
    .....................

Well, I maybe shouldn't say stupid. I mean some people may not realise that this is a very dangerours play if he did not actually play the game before.

Somehow, your answer remindered me of the "call girl" v.s. "ball girl" commerical on 610. "There is a big difference."

Because it was not an intentional foul. I think we've all done something playing sports that could be borderline dangerous in the heat of the moment. You do things in those situation without thinking. Z had maybe 1/2 a second to react as he was falling down and he reached for the ball.

It was definitely a foul, could even be considered flagarant, and (I use to not believe it) but I'm really starting to think the refs hate Yao, but that play was not intentional.

It was a foul, there are such things as loose ball fouls. Also, I've see plays where an offensive player jumps in mid-air, passes and draws contact and gets the foul call.

And if you want to get nitty gritty, his left hand was on Yao's shorts while Yao still has possesion (though I don't believe he was pulling Yao down).

He fell backwards and reached, unintentional. But it is damn scary to see a guy that size (Yao) fall shoulder first.

He didn't "fall" backwards and then reach. He DOVE backwards IN ORDER TO reach for the ball.
