Just saw the Sportscenter recap. On that play they just said "Yao took a hard fall" and then they had Bill Walton breakdown Yao Ming's performance and when it got to that part he said (roughly) "Ilgauskus, though, with a brilliant defensive play here and the Rockets couldn't pull it out". Sportscenter used the angle that made it the least clear, by the way, but you could still see Z fall into his path.

Does Matt Bullard realize that Jeff Van Gundy getting a technical right there would have iced the game for the Cavs? I would have liked to see someone go postal on that play too ... but unfortunate timing.

Unbelievable. Yao was mugged on that play. Why was Z trying to apologize to Yao if even he did not know it was an obvious foul?

Totally agree with you there Clutch, i was stuck watching the FSN Ohio feed so I missed out on the Houston call.

By the way, right after the Celtics announcers the Cavs duo has to be some of the biggest homers on TV

all i can say is you are RIDICULOUS if you think thats not a foul....Kobe, Wade, Lebron would get that call everytime....why doesn't Yao...thats not that point....any player should get that call...its a FOUL.....just like even if you foul a shooter even after he shoots the ball , is still coniserede a foul...even in the follow thru......

This is overreacting. Ilgauskus was going for the ball. Its a foul but assault? No way.

If this was football, it would still be an illegal move.

God, that was so scary. I was sure Yao had hurt his leg again

THANK YOU, finally an actual true analysis of the incident. I still cant beleive how some people here can still think its intentional. IT WASN'T. But its still definitely a foul, just not dirty.

I don't think anyone cares whether it was intentional. The point is that it was a foul. A foul that wasn't called that led to a Cavs fast break.

Well, foul or no foul, either way we will all be able to look back at it and say that was the point Yao and the Rockets dominated the rest of the season.

The incident clearly woke a "sleeping giant" and I can't wait to see what Yao has in store for the poor Celtics tomorrow night.

how do u know he wasnt upset and took it out on Yao? what happened to him is tragic, and my heart goes out to his family, but u should never intentionally try to hurt another player especially Yao who just came back from a serious leg injury.

regardless, that was a tackle and the dumb refs didnt see it cause they were staring at Lebron's azz.

I think everyone here knows its a foul, except for a couple ppl who might have a little doubt that it is. However, there are still many people who are talking trash about big Z being a dirty player, and I think that's unfair.

See, this is still the argument, of whether it was intentional or not. It was not an intentional move to injure yao!!! how do you people come up with this?

that was NOT a foul. ziggy stripped the ball and accidently fell in yao's way causing yao to fall over him. it wasn't a foul because he didn't have the ball. you all need to learn how to play basketball.

i didnt say that it was intentional, it could have been an unintentional tackle. we dont know that. the point is that it was not called which led to a fast break and a cavs victory.

let me explain something to you. If Tmac is dribbling UP THE COURT with the ball, and Chris Paul dives in front of him, across tmac's body to tap the ball out, then tmac eats dirt over Chris Paul. My friend THAT IS A FOUL.

It doesn't matter if Tmac or Yao didn't have possesion for that microscopic second, you cant be moving a take some one out, its called a defensive foul.

One more ex. WITHOUT THE BALL. If Rip Hamilton is running the baseline, and Deke dives in front of him and takes him and Rip trips over him. THAT HIS A FOUL ON DEKE. Deke was NOT diving still (impossible) Deke was MOVING. Thus a defensive foul.

I watched a show a couple of days ago on NBA TV on officiating. I believe it was Stu Jackson who was going over some plays and NBA rules.

Chris Duhon recently got ejected after he was called for a foul for jumping in front of Arenas. He stole the ball but tripped up Arenas. It was very silmilar to the play being discussed in this thread. Jackson referred to the move as a "football move" and stated clearly that it violates NBA rules.
