It's possible, but that's usually not the case. I think people are wanting to justify their assholish/douchebaggy/b****y/****-like tendency. People are confusing good-natured vs good-hearted. A-holes can be good-hearted people, but typically are closer to the all-encompassing variety.
An A-hole can exhibit good person qualities but that still doesn't make them a good person...just an A-hole that happen to do something nice. And of you really dig deeper, they probably did that good thing for some A-holey reason.
You've pretty much answered your own question. People are complex and being an ******* is going to be subjective. A lot of people who work in jobs like police, firefighters and doctors are assholes. In the sense that they can be rude and arrogant. That comes with the territory though in that these are high stress jobs where lack of confidence can often lead to death. That doesn't mean that they aren't necessarily good people.
