Ummm... maybe. Who picks up the defensive slack if Batts is gone? I'd send Jackson, Head and Francis as much as I'd love to see Francis return... Of course, if SF3 can come back to form like he had at first in Orlando, then we wouldn't need AI. The numbers will not work though, I'm sure. I am no capologist by any means... I would think that Denver would entertain the thought of getting Batts though.. they have no defense otherwise... Camby or not.
It works if Iverson is insisting on getting about 10-12 mil per season. The beauty of this for the Nuggets (of course Nugs4 is gonna chew me out on this) is: 1. Anthony has room to grow now. When they traded for Iverson I knew it was a horrible match for Melo. Iverson commands the ball to the point where Melo's game wasn't going to grow much. This allows him to be the focal point again on his own team. Granted, he's gonna miss a guy that puts in 24 ppg a night but the Nuggets got enough players on that team to either fill in the void or to trade and find that void-filler. 2. They have their perimeter defender and glue guy. I'd imagine that lockerroom is a chemistry mess and a guy like Battier is what they need. They have inside presence in Camby and now they have a defender on the perimeter who can help with some of the workload. Of course one guy ain't going to make that Denver group world beaters, but it's a much needed change. 3. Jackson's expiring contract. They'll eventually need this when they realize that they're STILL paying Kenyon Martin and they're giving out Nene, what, 9 mil a year? As for the Rockets, of course you lose the best defensive player you got but you get that third scorer you DESPERATELY need and you get a player that got that killer instinct. To be honest, if we had Yao, AI, and Tmac and we needed a last bucket, it'd be a toss up between Yao and Iverson for me with McGrady a distant third. Every team in the West needs a third scorer and Iverson can fill that role with ease. I can easily see an Iverson/Rafer backcourt working..well worlds better than an Iverson/Anthony Carter backcourt.
some of you idiots are reading this thread incorrectly. replace luther head, bobby jackson, brooks etc with Iverson hell freak yes! I'll take him any day of the week. in case our other players decide to not to shoot in the 4th quarter he's a former MVP and taken a crap Sixers team to the NBA Finals. he'll AUTOMATICALLY be the guy on the team with the most "HEART"
if the price is within our range, hell ya! but i would doubt iverson is going to be willing to take a big pay cut. plus, it may be a year or 2 too late to acquire him. i don't know. mcgrady for iverson str8 up? that, needs a lot of pondering.
Seconded. Don't let the crap AI was surrounded with in Denver fool you about the type of player he is.
Iverson is such a ball hogger, that he really isnt a PG, just another undersized SG, which we got a whole city full of.
Another GREAT POST by a 1999er Followed by another bad post by a late 2Ker . 1999.. We rule this joint!
Wait, people are seriously thinking that a pu pu platter of Bobby Jackson, Steve Francis and Luther Head is going to get Allen Iverson?! If he is demanding a trade and will cut his salary to go somewhere, why would he go to the Rockets? Why not Portland, or LA, or Orlando?
Iverson doesn't have to opt out of his contract. All he has to do is choose to stay in Denver and he will make $21,937,500 next season. That's more than Tracy or Yao will make. I doubt he sees the Rockets as a team that is that much closer to a championship than the Nuggets where he would take a massive pay cut, especially considering the Rockets haven't even escaped the 1st round, injuries or not.
talking about budget,I have to say sth. I have to say,Tmac is good ,and,he should be respected in this series even Rox cannot win. Tmac or Yao are all good, but everyone in this league is not bad,the question is, does the value of a player match his salary? I have to say Kobi,TD,LJ,though most highly paid ,but they are profitable. That is what business is.A player must be profitable for a team. IN this regard,Heyes is extremely profitable for Rox ,as Battier. But I question the profitableness of the so called core player in Rox. We have to value if having one player is profitable for Rox and for the fans who purchase their performance. Morey as MBA,is of course clear of it . I have to say someone is extremely talented, and play extremely wonderfully, but I just wonder if he is profitable compared to what he get from Rox .
With age comes experience and maturity... AI is well aware of his "window" and it's not going to "open" in Denver. He would know his role in Houston - and honestly, I think a solid 3rd, at times 2nd, option would fit him now... and he would welcome the spot.. Portland is too young, LA (Lakers don't "need" him, Clippers owner won't pay), Orlando is another youth movement... AI needs a better "win now" fit than Denver.... Houston makes sense from his standpoint to me.. ya' know.. IMHO. Clean out some bench, use some of the higher expirings... shoot send a big if you have to and a pick... I could see it. My video games say it works well too... (okay not really, that one was just for the younger crowd - but I dare you to try it out for us...)
So, you are basically expecting a guy like Allen Iverson to sacrifice massive amounts of money to go to a team that has arguably only a slightly better chance of winning a title? Additionally, what if he simply chooses to stay in Denver and collect over $21 million next season?
