People really overestimate the bar of entering HOF. Think about it this way, the HOF has been adding 3-4 players (not counting female players) a year, so eventually there will be 3-4 players in each class entering the Hall of Fame. Most successful NBA player probably plays for close to 15 seasons, so among the current NBA players, there will probably be 40 or 50 of them ending up in the HOF. I laugh when people debate who will be a HOFer among TMac, VC, AI, R.Allen etc. You can bet all of them will. Any player having all-star and all-NBA honors more than a couple of times will most probably be a HOFer.
I'll go even further. Has there ever been a HoF that has never gotten some sort of recognition or accolade as a player? Wallace was a multiple time DPoY, while I think Ginobili racked up a 6MotY award.
Thing about Ben Wallace was he didn't sustain it for very long. Not to say he won't make it, though. MLB, which is more reserved it seems at inducting people, typically won't induct players who only had short periods of elite play.
Calvin Murphy was not a NBA superstar. He played in one all-star game. However, Calvin was a superstar college player.
The thing about Wallace, HP, is his BEASTLY (almost unprecedented) DPOYs*.... 4x winner - FOUR times He has 2 rebounding titles, one block title, and is one of only 3 players to lead the league in those categories* same season in league history. 4x All-Star isn't shabby, and of course, a ring. I was cheering for Ben and DET so hard against SA in '05, but oh well. Is Billups a HOF? *didn't always exist in the league
