    The Lee situation bears watching.

I know such a deal may be a long shot but bear with me:

If Houston were to do a S&T with the Lakers, then we should all get very excited because that would signal that the rumored 3-way deal between Houston, LA, and the Magic is gonna happen.

Lee is one of Howard's buddies. Maybe the chance of playing on the Lakers (who are always contenders because of Kobe) with his buddy will convince Howard to go there and stay.

If LA gets Howard, Houston gets Bynum (since he won't resign in Orlando but will in Houston) and the Magic get several draft picks and a few young prospects from the Rockets.

Sounds to me like a great deal for all 3 teams, as long as both stars sign long term extensions with their new clubs...

Depends on Lee himself, whether he wants to go to a contender or get a fat contract.

If he wants to go to a contender, which doesn't have the cap room or the exception available to sign him, then a sign-and-trade for a decent contract is possible. Like Camby.

If he just wants to maximize salary, then most likely sign outright with someone who can pay up (lottery-level team), and the Rockets can't do anything about it. Like Dragic.

At his age, and going for his first contract post the Rookie scale, I think it is more likely Lee's case will be more like Dragic's.

Expect 'certain' posters to jump in and pound the Morey Fail posts again ... without differentiating the background circumstances.

I think there is still a chance that Lee comes back to Houston.

    Hypothetical:

Let's say that in the next 24-48 hours Morey pulls off the Dwight Howard trade. To entice Howard to stay you will want to surround him with good players and not many rookies. Courtney Lee would be perfect to put next to Howard in the starting lineup. Add that Lee is also Howard's buddy and you would be silly not to try and resign him.

In terms of S&T, I would say we could get whatever the team he chooses to pay. Most likely a 2nd rounder, but in the event we have to take on guaranteed money then potentially a 1st rounder would be needed to compensate.

I think a S&T is very likely. While Lee can sign outright with another team because we gave up his "restricted" rights, what we didn't give up was his "bird" rights. Therefore, we can still pay him more than any other team out there, so a sign and trade would work in Lee's benifit.

LOL you'd be very disappointed not to get 12-18 for a player who's an unrestricted free agent and over whom you have no influence whatsoever?

While we're at it, we should also trade Gordon and Hibbert to low lottery teams for their unprotected firsts.

I could see him going to the Pacers, it makes too much sense. He's from there, they are targeting a guard, and they have cap space.
I think it's either Mayo or Lee for them, and I think Lee would be cheaper, better value, and less character concerns.

No question that Lee is garnishing interest by multiple teams on the trade front.

-Wouldn't be shocked to see him go to the Celtics given Morey's relationship with the folks in their front office. They do not have the best assets on the market unless they are willing to give up one of their new rookies which is doubtful, but they can be used as leverage for other teams to pay up to get Lee.

-The Bulls will also be in play, and there are some interesting assets they have that could entice Morey to play ball with them. The Bulls own a Bobcats lottery protected pick very similar to the Dallas pick the Rockets already have that is very intriguing and would be a nice pickup for a mega trade sweetener.

-Another team to watch out for is the Mavs. Morey and Cuban rarely deal with each other, but this might be worth exploring. Ian Mahinimi for Courtney Lee in a S&T would seem to make sense for both teams.

but can you still un-renounce restricted rights and extend the QO AFTER he's found a new team? It makes no sense.

I agree that the Celtics are a good trade option for the Rockets, but I doubt Morey wants another rookie. Any Lee S&T deal would likely involve a S&T of Keyon Dooling and a future first rounder. The Celtics also own CHA's and MIN's 2013 second rounders, which could be nice fallback options if they can't extract a first from Boston.

While I would LOVE to get that CHA first rounder from Chicago, I seriously doubt that the Bulls would even consider giving it up in a Lee S&T. They're holding onto that pick, either for themselves or to use in a trade for a star player. As CH has mentioned, the most likely return from Chicago would be Rip Hamilton ($5M next year, and only $1M of his $5M salary in 2013-14 being guaranteed) along with a future pick.

Dallas has no incentive to do a S&T for Lee. They have sufficient cap space to sign him outright; and the new CBA does not give free agents the ability to receive a better contract via S&T than they could get by just signing outright.

We can get more than a first round pick. I think we can get that and then some. possibly another young center to compete for that backup spot. Lee has a lot of value. he is one of the best deffenders out there and shoots pretty well to. I know the Celtics are interested and they just might have a late lottery pick next year.

If he chooses to go to a team that doesn't have the cap space like the Bulls then offer C.Lee and 2 second rounders for 1st rounder.
