Cam Whitmore traded to Wizards for 2 2nd round picks

I'd take Amen-Reed over Amen-Cam.

 

The buzz around Cam Whitman in Washington is palpable right now.

 

Cam Whitmore wasn't good at basketball and will never be. Not a mentally fit player.

Defense is not just effort. Effort is a big part. But there are defensive skills he needs to learn.

I don’t know. I think he’ll be fine and well rounded by his mid 20’s. We just didn’t have that much time to wait and find out.

 

Too much defensive lacking. The guy is uber talented offensively. I love how he plays and he could be a great 6th man.

Ime is a winner. He clearly didn't think much of Cam despite the Rockets issues of scoring last year.

 

As a rookie Cam set a record for being one of only two players in NBA history to average at least 12 points while playing fewer than 19 mpg. His catch-and-shoot percentage was ranked 20th in the league and he tied Gilgeous-Alexander with being first in the league for most points per touch. He was 19 years old. Then he gets benched the very next season because he finally had a shooting slump.

The only thing that's going to stop Cam from progressing is an injury. Anyone who thinks otherwise doesn't know ****. I see him having a breakout season, the same as Kyle Lowry when he finally got more playing time after getting traded to Houston. He would be the perfect fit for the Rockets, especially with all the wide open 3's and drives he'd get with Durant here.

 

Then why did the Rockets trade him.

Why did he go 20th overall? Teams got a look at him and said nah.

Where were the trade suitors for him when he was on the market.

I just think he didn't play ball the right way. Rockets front office agreed.

 

"Why did he go 20th overall?" Because he was projected to be a lottery pick. The top teams passed on him due to medical concerns. The teams that weren't in the lottery didn't have enough research on Cam because they didn't think he'd fall to them.

"Where were the trade suitors?" The Rockets have a habit of trading their players to the best situation possible. Stone did him a solid by trading him to his hometown where he'll get more playing time. They didn't trade him because he "wasn't a good player." Numbers don't lie.

This is his contract year. By doing this favor for Cam, they also do his agent a favor which could benefit the Rockets down the line. This is chess, not checkers. The Rockets could have had a better package for Cam if they traded him to a different team.

He didn't get benched because he had a shooting slump. He got benched because he didn't play defense and doesn't know how to pass. He admitted the first himself in the quotes right above your post, and the second was obvious for all to see.

He very well may have a strong career, but this gaslighting that somehow he was done wrong by the Rockets is absurd. Even Cam himself doesn't believe it.

Any reason you are taking this so personal? My goodness.

 

It sounds like Cam is admitting that he didn’t give max effort on defense. I don’t get this. If he wanted more minutes, why wasn’t he doing everything he needed to do to improve. Young players may have shortcomings, but the effort needs to always be there.
