''Even in the more modest, typical trade deadline goals of strengthening a rotation for a playoff push, the Rockets would be careful about bringing in players that would take minutes from Whitmore and Thompson. Whitmore’s shooting has been valuable for a team among their league’s worst in 3-point shooting. Thompson’s defense has been especially strong for a rookie, with his rebounding outstanding any player at his position and his ballhandling and playmaking a plus for a secondary ballhandler (when playing with Fred VanVleet.) … There could be interest in a short-term upgrade at center, but less pressure to make that sort of move given the likelihood that after the Adams trade, bringing in a sixth center would be for this season with a team still thinking long-term.''
Udoka on Whitmore’s shot selection; “I saw some shots that you need to make an extra pass to teammates. He got it going a little bit late, kind of when it was out of hand, but the message is do the right thing from the start and you're not at that deficit at halftime."
His defense did not look good last night. Scoring was good early, but then went to nothing and provided nothing else.
I think just before that clip, Udoka was talking about the overall lack of passing already. So basically it was like: Udoka: I didn't like our passing tonight. reporter: So, what did you think about Cam tonight? Udoka: I didn't like his passing either.
Players improve their handle all the time at the NBA level. Their are certainly limits - not every player will be Steve Nash — but there are many players that improved from below average to above average.
Translation: Don’t play stupid and make winning plays. Cam or anyone else on the team can score 20 points a night - but if it doesn’t help win more games, they will find themselves next to the two worthless centers we have on the bench.
This is the painful beginning part of phase two......first time Young'ins learning how to win/close out games on both Home/Road, and they are basically playing a playoff game rest of reg season based on how tight 9-10th seeds are Which is going to come with some serious mean mug/cold stares with profanity words of motivation from Udoka, especially for the young ones
Amen Whitmore Tari Jabari Sengun Switch everything, and trade away the contracts we signed this season that will prevent us from keeping this team together while we still can. If none of these players develop into option 1A, we trade for one.
Off the top of my head? Kawhi Leonard, Jaylen Brown, Miles Bridges, Jim Butler, DeRozan, KD, Jokic, Harden, Blake Griffin, Poole, Brunson… Giannis. A lot of the league improved their handles, which isn’t shocking when they come into the league at 19-21 years old. Paul Pierce is another one and I am sure I am forgetting many others.
