The fact that you can’t even fathom the possibility of it is the height of arrogance and delusion. Pot meet kettle
I immediately think of Eric Gordon in terms of shot appetite for Cam. When EG was playing with Harden he only averaged under 2 assists a game. All he did was shoot 3's and straight line drives and he played that extremely well. The difference is EG does have the decision making to know when to drive and when not to even though his assists were low. I feel like Cam can replicate that if we have a good enough point guard. He also has a sturdy body like EG and have a stroke from 3
Possibility of what? Not being able to tell the future? You are making no sense. Opinion: "I don't think Bari will make an All Star game given his limitations, but I could be wrong." Declaration of fact: "Bari will never make an All Star game." The former is reasonable, the latter is absurd and an example of the toxic rhetoric taking over this board lately.
Every marginal All-Star you named are players that their teams rely on to consistently create shots. Unless you are elite at another aspect of the game, dpoy(Gobert) or lead the league in assists, it’s very hard to impossible to make an allstar game if you are not used consistently as a shot creator. Also Sengun’s usage is only going to go up. Jalen is going to be replaced in the starting lineup by either someone we trade for or Cam Whitmore eventually, either will be more productive than the current Jalen Green and will also eat up more usage as the second option on the team. If anything, I can see Jabari’s ppg stagnate or go down in the future. He’s not an option over Sengun, unnamed second option, or Fred…so you will eventually settle in as the 4th option.
I literally said I will root for him becoming an allstar, and I defended your right to state your opinion that he will be an allstar, just that I don’t think it will happen. You can shut right the f up now because I won’t be responding to your ass anymore.. How’s that for toxic rhetoric, b****.
Are you stupid? You responded to my critique of someone else's declaration that Bari will never be an All Star, and then when I explain why logic as to why I was responding to the FIRST poster, you post this defense of your own opinion? I swear the IQ of the board has plummeted lately.
He said he would bet against Jabari becoming an allstar. Wtf is wrong with that? He also said Jabari is a role player. That’s a FACT. You thinking Jabari is some star player in the making is the imaginary fairy tale OPINION. We doubt that it will happen, but at least we are not the ones in here telling people they can’t express their opinions, you go right on and spew your imaginary tales. For good measure he even said he likes Jabari the player, but I doubt you even read that far down too busy being the basketball thought police.
I think if you are DPOY candidate, you have a good chance if you have consistent scoring. JJJ had pretty low counting stats last year but still made it for his defense
Sengun is 21.6 ppg, rounding up to 22, with only 16 fga per game. I'm not sure if Sengun will shoot more when our offense is more mature. But we can be sure that his shots and scoring average won't decrease. That said, for Jabari to average 22, he will have to increase his shot attempts to at least 15 per game, which is about 33% increase. It will be difficult for him to get that unless he becomes more self-creating kind of scorer. Right now, FVV and Jalen take the lion shares of shots besides Sengun. I can see FVV's fga decrease if we have more competent scorers. But Green's attempts will likely stay or be replaced by someone (Cam?) who can score better. From the perspective of our offensive pecking order, Jabari will be 3rd at best, likely 4th, option. The only thing that will change that is Jabari to be successful in being more aggressively creating his own shots.
I don't think it'll be that difficult for Bari to get to 20 pts a game. He already gets 13-14 pts on 10 shots which is damn good efficiency. As he continues to get older and mature his shot attempts will increase and you can count on more 3s from that. I also expect additional opportunities at the free throw line as he naturally matures strength wise. He will not be at 10 shots per game while he's in his prime. what were seeing he can do at 20 is just the beginning. We only see this now with the vets who command the ball. Once they're gone the pecking order will change without a doubt. That's when the rockets will see the young core of sengun/bari/tari/cam etc organically become the face of the team We've already seen he can explode for 30 and 10 games and 20 and 10 games. So he definitely knows he's capable Sengun only averages 20 right now because he takes basically all 2's. If he was a 3 pt shooter already he'd be scoring in the mid 25 range. if he ever adds that to his offense consistently, that's basically what we should expect. If he adds a few more free throws, which isn't out of the question considering he plays with contact, it could be closer to 30 as he reaches the prime stages of his career
Some of us have been hoping Jabari to get more shots. I have come to the conclusion that this will only happen if he becomes more aggressive or more selfish. That doesn't look like it is happening. This is a Cam thread. I have a feeling that if Cam does replace Jalen as the starter, he will take a lot of shots, at least as many as Jalen is now. If Cam is not replacing Jalen, that will likely mean that Jalen will break out to be a good scorer. Either way, shot distribution is not likely going to shift to Jabari. Another possible scenario, which is not very likely IMO, is that teams start putting more defensive focus on Alpi, forcing him to pass to Jabari spotting up at the 3pt line or cutting to the basket. Anyway, while I like Udoka's coaching philosophy so far, I don't have a lot of confidence in him being a creative offensive coach. He seems to rely on players' ability to create their shots rather than use schemes to get guys open shots.
yeah he actually has his stretches where he's putting up additional shot attempts above the mean. and then he'll go back to the average or below. But this is part of his growth. Eventually he'll string it together more often than not. The big thing is he's still maintaining that jump in efficiency and much more active on the boards. plenty of things to come for this extremely young 2 way player Yeah I'm not even sure how Bari got into this Cam thread and who derailed it. Back to Cam Buckets
Not sure why people are talking about Jabari in a Cam thread but I'll add to this. If players like Klay Thompson and Middleton can make the All-Star team then it's possible Jabari will in the future. Especially if he's producing on a winning team. His shot will become elite, if it's not already..and at 6'11 he has a big advantage. He'd have to be a major contributor for a playoff/championship caliber team. With Ime as the coach, it's possible. By next season though I expect for this team to look drastically different. Rockets will lose a player (or two) that we love.
One thing missing in Bari's game is that he is too stationary in the offense when Sengun has the ball. If he can cut more even from one side to the other side, Alpi can feed him more and he can get more shots. He is making too easy for his defender. Actually, same is true for Cam and the rest of the team, too! At times, I feel like the whole team is waiting on the 3-point line and do nothing
To be fair, the second statement is also an opinion, just submitted as if it isn't. A declaration of fact is more like: "Jabari Smith is taller than 6'5". Or "the Pistons currently have the worst record in the NBA". Opinion is "the Pistons will be the worst team at seasons end". Or "Jock Landale will never play an all-star game". Both are most likely true, but not fact until seasons end or retirement of player. (I'm not attacking your post, attempting to support it)
Jalen’s shooting percentage is terrible and his defense is average. We need to trade for a solid shooting guard and let Cam play at least 25 minutes per game for our future
Yes, I’ve always said that the path for Jabari to becoming a star was on defense, forget dpoy, even just first team all defense would be enough. That was the hope coming out of the draft, after two years it’s obvious that his defensive advanced stats at auburn were boosted playing next to Kessler, who is the actual dpoy type player. Jabari’s defense is certainly improved from his rookie year but I haven’t seen anything that suggest all nba much less dpoy.
