I'm not a huge Cam fan but this is a bit unfair. I pointed it out when it happened but a couple of weeks ago when Sengun had that jumping behind the back pass to Tari, Cam was absolutely freaking out on the bench. That was when Cam is deep in the dog house and he was still celebrating the team's success. I think you might be going a bit too far with this angle.
Look you won't find me denying evidence, I've proven my stripes as an optimist for the young guys. Here: Cam cheered two weeks ago as well. And he's been selfish for 6 years every single team he's been on. So I'll withdraw my "never cheers" and change it to "basically never cheers". Is it really fair for you to ask me to change my opinion on that basis? Let's be real now.
@Mathloom NGL dude, you're an awesome contributor so I wasn't going to point it out myself, now that someone did I do specifically recall this play and I've made it a point to note Cam's behavior on plays the bench is/was celebrating. Frankly, much to my surprise, he truly has been cheerleading his teammates success. And he's often one of the first ones to help a player off the ground (which, again, shame on me perhaps but it was a surprise). That doesn't take away from your criticism of his tendencies on the court. That's a different matter. But on this one I think sample size may be anomalously impacting your assessment. Like if there are 10 potential observations in the population and your sample is 7 the stdev error just renders it moot.
https://www.linkedin.com/posts/kevi...the-houston-activity-7065014210375684096-uKcy You don't have to form actual long term relationships with these activities. We need him to do teamwork and get told he's wrong sometimes. That's where the problem is going to be.
As a previous Cam defender, I gotta say it was a bummer seeing him walk when we needed him to hustle back in defense last night. Not in a defiant way, just low morale. If he was thinking of it as garbage time instead of "This is a chance to show I belong," that's part of the problem. I still hold out hope that he's just young and in need of therapy or depression meds. But he continues to not make the case that he's ready to be one of the all-around guys we need.
Cam is the least shellfish player in the league -- when he's not in the lab working on BBQ he's making Houston a better place through charity work.
Cam needs to be traded. Tough spot for him. He is a very talented scorer. There is no paying time for him. But at his point he is just not better all around than the guys in front of him right n whether he is smiling or having good behavior or not. Think Amen, Tari, Bari, Brooks, Green. He may become 6th man of the year for some other team in the future. Trade him while he still has good value.
I think Cam should be given 15 minutes a game or more depending on how he's playing in the rest of the regular season. Reed is playing with more maturity. He should replace Aaron Holiday until the playoffs. FVV's minutes should be decreased. Reed and Amen should handle the ball more often. PS: I'm starting to believe that Sengun's footwork problems around the basket, might be related partly to a mental block associated with his ankle injury.
