He shot (and missed) a ridiculous 2-pointer half a step in from the three-point line, with several teammates open, early in the shot clock. He needs to cut that crap out. Great athleticism and confidence though.

Yeah - but JC was supposed to be playing point guard...

(I agree Whitmore has tunnel vision - but maybe he has been told to keep it simple this year. Just go out there and score. You think the coaching staff are like 'woah, he has the most shot attempts, but we wanted him to primarily pass the ball).

Josh Christopher's was worse because he was a point guard with tunnel vision. Serously, wth.
Cam looks more like a designated scorer/gunner type now. He's also the scorer on that second unit on most nights. There are times he should pass the ball that he doesn't, but his primary focus is to score.

That's pretty much what he says in the post-game interview below. He says if the coach tells him to make plays, he tries to do that, and if he's told to score, he goes out and does that, too.

But I guess he's asked to score a lot more LOL. The team can probably use some instant offense off the bench.

JC was drafted as a SG though, he was just shoved into the PG role (or at least the hope was that he could develop or turn into more of a PG) since he's quite undersized for an SG.

In pre-season, the journey always matters more than the result. I get he might be asked to focus more on scoring off the bench, but ultimately his greatest criticism going into draft day is his apparent tunnel vision. Perhaps Udoka is making the game easier for him by asking him to do what he is best at, but regardless, in 50 total minutes, Whitmore has taken 33 shots but only recorded 1 assist. It's a pretty big contrast.

Bingo. I'm really hoping that's the case here. If he's taking it on himself to ball hog I'd have hoped Udoka would have put a stop to that.

While that dunk was nice, I am not as high as many posters here on Cam. I really think he needs to spend time in RGV to fix some stuff. His shot selection is poor. He makes a shot and thinks he is on fire and starts jacking up middies off the dribble. He needs to know if he wants significant playing time, he needs to focus on being a good 3&D player. Get on the court first and then work on other parts of your game later like what Mikal Bridges did.

"So many bad shots..." and uses two "bad" shots as proof, one which was a broken down play. Give me a break... these posts are so emotional, with no actual logic or concrete data.

I don't want to be mean so I won't describe @Itamar_17_10 using only two of his tweets.

Agreed. We should trade him while we can get something...anything for him.

Cam needs some seasoning, no doubt.
But I think I'll wait till the regular before I read too much into the role he is playing and how well he is at it.

He is 19 years old. Lets not rush to judgement just yet.

As I’ve said many times, Cam still needs to learn how to play team basketball and see the court better. But he’s 19. He needs to learn behind the vets this year. His time will come. He could be our best shooter and 2-way player one day. Needs a lot of development, but that shouldn't surprise anyone.

I find it surprising that on a night that the starters did not have it, Cam cannot have a below average shooting night......without getting picked on.

He still played hard and led the comeback with Amen.

You realize that G-League runs a chucker's league with little Defense?

He is already a little too polished for the G-League, it would not matter to him.

G-League is more of Summer League which he is MVP of.....lmao.

Going against NBA second stringers or continue going against them is what he needs.

Having said that, I am not sure how he will get minutes but I sure hope he gets minutes.

I disagree. Our G-League was and has been well coached. I do no think Cam is polished at all. He really needs time down in RGV.

Well, okay, but the competition down there is ass. you probably have 5 teams that are run well enough......

Just because RGV is well coached does not mean he can simulate NBA competition.

I propose to hire a special coordination coach for him. Get him to slow down at times and look for the teammate.

The issues that Whitmore is showing aren't anything new. The guy has tunnel vision and zero passing acumen. It's not something that can be fixed in the short term and even in the long term it's dicey whether he can be an average passer for a wing. I am assuming if he gets regular season minutes that the coaches are going to restrict his shot diet to something similar to what Dillon Brooks can shoot.

Long term he simply needs to either be more efficient of a black hole if he's going to shoot more, or just stick to being more of a 3&D player.
