yeah 24 min performance in a win doesn't matter its the 5min post game performance which matters the most
Wasn't like he dropped bad words. They asked him a question and he gave his real feelings. Action over words. His action was his play on the court. Him playing well, team getting wins. Be a practical fan. Stack wins and secure home court advantage for playoffs.
at 1;22 -- a guy asked if Cam thinks he's done enough to deserve a consistent role or consistent minutes... Cam says -- no .. no .. no I think Cam has humbly said no [meaning he himself doesn't think he deserves a consistent role/minutes] what's all the fuzz without knowing fully -- the context
in that same interview he said that his goal is to bring energy, spark, joy.. some juice to help the guys win... as you've said, his action matters most over 'misunderstood/mis-interpreted' words
This reminds me the twisting of Royal Ivey halftime interview words few days ago. Royal vs Alperen Ime vs Cam ... Team just stopped an L skid. Enjoy the wins as they come. Don't look for dramas that aren't there. We're undefeated as of the New calendar Year .
Cam Whitmore seems like the type of guy that gets in an argument with himself while looking at the mirror.
May just be due to small sample size, but Cam's defensive rating is actually very good this season (much better than Jalen's - Jalen's is the worst among the guys getting heavy minutes).
I like defensive rating, but it has to be taken in context. Besides for Reed, Cam has mostly been playing with good defensive players. I think his strength makes him a better defender than Green even if Green is more attentive and doing the right thing more often.
Cam has played limited minutes with a large chunk of it being played during garbage time when a game is a blow out. Analyzing defensive rating between the two is silly given the drastically different type of minutes these two play. Green is playing in tight games against opposing star offensive players. And no, Cam isn't utilizing his strength advantage to be a better defender than Green. Even with Cam's massive advantage of spot minutes to be able to distribute energy better, playing against opposing bench units, playing more in garbage time, still has a worse DBPM than Green.
Cam's minutes in garbage time have been horrible defensively for the Rockets. If one only looked at minutes with the 7 rotation players*, the defense has been amazing. I put most of Cam's good defensive rating on his teammates as Cam's defensive rating gets better, the better the oppenents are (i.e., Amen is really great defensively, Sengun has been better than Adams and Landale, FVV>>>>Reed). Edit: *Other than Tari. I forgot Cam played some with Tari early in the season when Cam was playing horribly.
for the past 7 games as a 20 year old cam is scoring 26 points per 36 mins at 52% FG% 44.4% 3FG% 63.8% TS% https://www.nba.com/stats/players/traditional?TeamID=1610612745&LastNGames=15&PerMode=Per36
I am big fan of Whitmore. His upside is out of sight. He is still "raw" in some respects, but is talent/potential is off the charts. Dude has awesome athleticism, very big and strong, soft touch. Yes, he has a one tract vision to the basket, but with coaching he can become an absolute monster. He needs to have a coach assigned to just him.
I feel that Cam at this point has some similarities to Jalen. Both of them have the talent to score like a superstar in spurts, but not consistently. They are both exceptionally athletic, although in different ways. Cam is more power and Jalen is more quickness. Both have poor court awareness and team defense. Jalen is better at both due to two more years of development. We can't compare the two guys' first two seasons because Jalen's first two seasons were under Silas and the teams were terrible. Cam's teams have been much better. And Jalen is a #2 pick with a longer leash while Cam is #20. But it's interesting that Cam is looking this similar while two years behind in development. I am still holding my breath to see if he will turn into a great all around player or a talented scorer who can only do it in spurts. Oh, I almost forgot. DD hates Jalen but loves Cam. Take that for data!
