Cam is going to become a problem if he doesn't start getting some meaningful NBA minutes. You can just feel it. He's not going to be happy playing in the G League for very much longer. The organization needs to do something with him before it gets to that point. Either play him or trade him before it becomes an issue.
Even if we play him, what if he doesn't like his playing time being too little? What if he doesn't like coaching telling him to play defense or pass more? If he's going to become a problem now, he's going to become a problem sooner or later, regardless
Then he's a sunk cost and he should be traded. The fact that Reed gets more playing time right now should let you know where Ime and Co are at with him.
I don’t see stone trading away a young talented player like cam for nothing. This is the same gm that gave a big contract extension to unproven players like Kevin porter jr and green. Besides, cam is insurance in case Jalen Green doesn’t pan out, which he probably won’t.
It should let everyone know that they don't think Cam is a PG and doesn't have a chance to be a good backup PG by the playoffs. Basically Cam isn't better than Jabari, Tari, Amen, Brooks, and Tate, and isn't likely to better than Tari, Amen, and Brooks by the playoffs.
That article didn't have any insinuation of some shady inside source implying such and such the way you'd expect agents putting on pressure to do. I know it's SI but they're not what they're used to be. This seems to be more of a personal suggestion from the article writer. I don't know if Cam wants out, but at least for now nothing's leaking like with Martin a few years ago. Beyond that I have no idea, because he clearly needs a huge maturity upgrade to make it in the NBA.
Cam is more a SF. I'd play him at PF before SG as he likely needs to be on the court with skilled guys. A big problem for Cam is that the Rockets depend heavily on having 2 of Brooks, Tari, and Amen on the court for defense when the starting lineup is not in there. He needs to be able to make shots to have a chance for PT. I'm not as down as most seem to be on Cam, but I think he's going to have a tough time getting PT in the near future.
Jalen is so inefficient that Cam could easily be taking his minutes. The fact that he isn't is a fairly bad indictment on Cam. They don't play the exact same position as Jalen is more of a ball handler but Cam could easily slot next to Amen/Dillon/Adams/Tari or whatever and it'd work. Reed has been pretty bad to start the season and Holiday still hasn't fully replaced him. There are Reed alternatives on this team but Ime hasn't gone that route. Can't say the same for Cam.
I foresee we trade Cam and our late 1st this year for a veteran to add to our rotation. Hes just completely in the dog house. I am guessing but he must not be committed to doing the things that lead to winning and Ime has him firmly in the dog house. He is still young and is still very talented, but there is a reason he dropped in the draft. I think we may be seeing that. I hope he takes this time to mature and focus on whats being asked of him to get back into the rotation. He has a skill that this team desperately needs.
Reed is a PG and has a chance to be better as a PG than Holiday this season. Cam is not a SG. If anyone replaces Green, it will likey be Holiday, Brooks, or Amen. Even then, SF depth is still too much that Cam is unlikey to be better than Brooks, Amen, and Tari.
We may not have a late 1st this year. OKC can swap their pick for the better of ours or the Clippers. Then we can swap our pick for Phoenix's. We'd currently have the #13 pick. There's a lot of season left but the West is very competitive so maybe Phoenix stays in the lotto. I wouldn't expect the pick to be moved this season unless it's very clear where it's going to land. I think it's very possible to trade it pre-draft though as I don't think the team is that interested in adding another rookie.
Lateral at best when exchanged for Jalen .... they both shoot bad and are turnover prone, but defensively Jalen is better (can't believe I said that). Just not a player I'm interested in giving up assets for.
Sure, straight up .... I can see the logic - Fox is the better player. But in doing so, you now need to move FVV for a multitude of reasons You are bringing Fox in to run the show, not replace Jalen. I think that deal would almost demand that FVV be moved and the return be a 2 guard that can shoot and defend. One move without the other doesn't fix much of anything, in fact it may make you worse - Let's not forget that you have to pony up big $$$ to keep Fox after next season when you are also going to have to pay Amen and made decisions on Tari & Bari a year prior. This team could get real expensive real fast.
I don't think Cam will ever get stable minutes ever again. I think he's just a trade piece right now for Stone.
I think he could ultimately be the best player on this entire roster. I also think it's equally as likely that he's the next Kevin Porter Jr. I don't know what you do with the guy, but I know that the G League is only a VERY short term solution.
Maybe but I doubt his agent is calling up some poorly paid rando writing for the corpse of Sports illustrated to get his message out
Treating him like an insurance commodity is not fair to this kid’s psyche or his talent. There is NO reason Shepherd shouldn’t be in the G-League right now,
Not sure that Cam played in the 4th quarter of that loss to the Austin Spurs (12-10-24). 25 minutes, 12 points (2-6 from 3). Yawn. Since the Viper's next game isn't until Dec. 27th, I guess he'll be called back up. The only question is whether it's after the NBA Cup play is finished.
