Small sample size so hard to compare as there aren’t as many opportunities for that for Cam in his limited pt. But can’t emphasize enough that when he does get to the rim, he’s capable of absorbing body contact and finishing. Jalen is just too light. Maybe he’ll get stronger. But if he stays his size, he won’t ever be a great finisher.

We've seen Green finish absorbing body contact of guys like Brooks Lopez and Rudy Golbert. Consistency is the issue and he's doing those attempts after going by multiple defenders often against set defenses already planning to take away his driving lanes.

Just because someone is stronger doesn't automatically make them be better finishers.

set defense. one thing someone doesn't criticize about Cam is isolation. That's his bread and butter who is absolutely fearless. It's why he's in the league in the first place. That's just not his role on this team so just because it isn't on display doesn't mean it doesn't exist. But if he continues to progress and play well, cam will absolutely get more chances to put this more in display

It's a set defense with zero help against one of the worst perimeter defenders currently in the NBA.

I've done the numbers in the past, I think it's plausible that they can pay 3 of them the 25% max and still stay below the second apron and out of any real tax troubles.

As it stands now, I think it's likely that Sengun is a lock for that max extension and Jabari is could be in line after next season.
That leaves one of Cam / Amen / Green as the 3rd.

Yep, Green will be gone by next trade deadline - I think he is out already - unless he somehow develops a left hand, the ability to dribble, and a bball IQ - he is gone.

Amen has to shoot, if he can't he won't get a max either......doesn't matter where you are drafted, matters what you do.

Cam - while early looks to be our best pick since Alpi........he probably gets the third unless he falls way down.

Right now - for that extra max position.

    1. Cam
    2. Amen
    3. Jalen

    Just my op.

I don’t recall him finishing over Lopez, and Gobert is soft. And while no it doesn’t in and of itself make you a better finisher. But Jalen is an average finisher. And he’s way worse when he tries to go through contact, unlike Cam who can absorb contact. Unless Jalen develops some Kyrie or Aaron Brooks like English, he’s not going to be a good finisher at his size. Yay, he can get by a defender… to miss a layup.

I've not done the numbers, but 3 mini-max contracts or equivalents is what I was thinking. It only gets dicey if the Rockets blow 2 of the 3 off the bat. I still have hope for Jalen, but hope doesn't buy a max contract. My guess would be that:
    1. Sengun gets a max.
    2. Jalen has a ways to earn not going to RFA unless he settles for a KPJ-style contract.
    3. Bari and Tari are looking at good deals, but maybe not mini-maxes yet. They both still have time.
    4. Cam is looking real good.
    5. Amen has time to show what he can do.

In summary, I'd guess right now that Sengun, Smith and Tari are retained with the Rockets trying to keep the best of Cam and Amen provided neither Tari or Bari break the bank. Though if Green, Bari, or Tari show they are worth full mini-max's, I'm all for having that tough decision in the 2025 offseason. I just think it is really doubtful Green has a great enough rest of this season/postseason to force a minimax or close to it contract this offseason. Though, man if Green does force that...the Rockets are going to be real fun in the playoffs.

    Scrub to 2:37

It was literally a game Green at 20 years old the same age as Amen lead his team to to a win against a full strength Bucks team.

When you don't remember these type of moments it paints a clear picture you tune out positive plays of Green.

I agree with most of this:

I do think it highly possible likely that Jabari does end up getting 25%.
His improvement from last year to this is significant - his shooting numbers are now what we expected when he was drafted .... near 40% from 3 and he still has a lot of growth potential.

His shooting percentages are better than Jason Tatum from literally everywhere - field / 3 / FT and EFG.
That's scary. IF he can improve the handles and passing some, the sky's the limit.
He's not extension eligible until next year .....

Tari is a real wildcard. I don't think I'd give him 25% right now, but it only takes one GM make the offer. I'd be comfortable with him in the 15% range.

Sengun, Jabari & Tari seem like the keepers right now and you see where Cam / Amen end up in a couple years. You may keep one, both or none ....

Green .... is just so erratic. I'd hate to be in Stone's shoes having to make that decision. I change my mind on him every other day.

This squad can get expensive real quick, Stone has to be careful how he spends .... and we have to hope Tilman is willing to pay to win.

Um, huh? Yah, I can hit a half court shot, but not consistently so I’m technically able. Yes, Jalen is technically able of finishing…he just regularly doesn’t. Highlights are highlights. They don’t make videos of your misses — only of your bad defense if your name is James Harden. And while your accusation of me ignoring Jalen’s positives is probably true for many in here, it’s wrong when directed at me as I’ve consistently defended Jalen even when critiquing him. He is not a good finisher. When he is bumped he 99% of the time is thrown off course and misses terrible. With all his athleticism, he doesn’t avoid contact to finish like other good finishers in the league. Now, yes, he’s only 21 and has time to improve but finishing isn’t a skill you develop from scratch. Guys come into the league as good finishers and get only better. From day one I’ve never seen Jalen show that he is a good finisher. Occasional highlights do not disprove that. He regularly drives, avoids contact like up and under and misses the layup wildly. Because he’s not a naturally good finisher.

do you play basketball? If so, then you know what I’m talking about. You go to any gym and there’s always some guys who just clearly have that touch around the rim. Kyrie is the pinnacle, but I’d settle for just average. And I repeat, if he gets stronger he might improve significantly here because right now he’s SO light he just gets knocked down most the time and when he avoids contact he can’t finish well.

don’t defend green just because everyone else attacks him. The criticism is warranted. And it’s not a condemnation as a player it’s just a recognition of what he’s good at and what he’s not. Interior finishing is not his strong suit right now. It is what it is.

Being inconsistent with finishing around the rim at s young age doesn't mean you don't have the natural talent to make amazing finishes.

A lot of Green's inefficiency numbers at the rim are more due to poor decision making as in even attempting to finish at the rim when he might instead just have a corner open 3 for a teammate which would be a better decision. A lot of his misses are things like not properly reading the help defender's location thinking he has a clean look at the rim after beating his current defender. Is that something he can out grow? Well that kinda stuff will determine if he makes the leap.

But again don't confuse a lack of talent for inconsistency due to doing things like making the wrong read. A lot of the silly attempt he takes he vast majority of guards even elite ones would miss. They are just bad attempts.

90% of defenses play drop coverage on him. That means when he's finishing at the rim he's often forcing the issue instead of taking the open middie. He has to get consistent with the middie to not have defenders drop coverage him. They are way more afraid of getting beat by him than him making a jump shot over them. That has to level out a bit. Another thing that will determine if he makes the leap.
