We shall see, but to me, it makes total sense to start the year with him on the team. If he does well, that extra draft pick would be way more valuable than starting him in the minors to take a longer look at whoever fills the roster in his spot

Agreed. Keep him in the minors so in 7 years he can be mad at us and go to the Blue Jays for a slightly better deal.
