I disagree. If he did summer league again he could prove that he's willing to put in the offseason work to stay in shape and that he's willing to be more than a selfish Iso player who chucks up a shot every time he touches the ball AND he could show defensive improvement. Tests he failed last year in summer league
Oh for sure, was def not suggesting that lol. If Ime has issues with someone, I'm going to assume it's for a good reason at this point.
Have to keep repeating this. Rockets off season acquisitions and signings. KD-61 DFS-66 CC-64 SA-58 Those #s correspond to the number of games those 4 have averaged playing the last 3 seasons. Throw FVV and Tari in that mix. There will be plenty of minutes for Cam. He doesn’t have to be all-world defensively, just show effort. His game is offense. The league is trending to 5-out basketball. Happy 4th y’all
Are we trading this kid or what I’m tired of this rollercoaster of emotion I bet Stone told Ime if he gets him Durant & Finny then he has to start Jabari and give fair minutes to Cam and Reed this year
Gotta be Cam's camp pushing for a trade. He'll be extension eligible next year and we know Cam thinks highly of himself. Ime isnt going to guarantee him consistent playing time. Id guess Cam would rather go to a team where he'd get ample playing time so he can get more money.
Wild that some of you are blaming Ime for Cam not taking to coaching. Under Ime we saw improvements from: Jalen - Better defender, improved shot selection, better passer Sengun - Improved physicality, defense, rebounder Eason - Smarter defender, improved offensive player Jabari - Better rebounder, physically, improved shooting And more notably Amen who is an all NBA defender and arguably our best young player. Might I remind you all that Amen was drafted very much as a project - and this coaching staff has developed him beautifully. Even Reed Sheppard showed improvement as the season went on with his shooting and playmaking. But when it comes to Cam Whitmore it’s all Ime’s fault? Give me a break.
THANK YOU - finally someone looking at it from both sides......and that is a real concern for him, the Rockets have to navigate that - Cam knows he has like 3-4 years to earn that next contract and put himself on the "Pay me" train - and while that is NOT the Rox concern, it most certainly is his, so they have to figure that out. Trading him just to get him off the roster when his talent is UNIQUE to this team wouldn't be smart - you keep talent, especially 21 year old talent that shot 40% from 3 after November - and when given extended minutes played great. With a 37 year old Durant, a gimpy Tari, and DFS who misses time, you are probably going to need him or else Tate it is.....which is an option but not a good one. Cam showed improvement on both ends....FFS people.....watch the games. DD
He quite literally didn’t. That’s why he was glued to the bench for most of the season on a 2 seed team where we saw stretches of games where perennial bench warmers like Tate and Holiday were getting minutes over him. Stop arguing with bad faith - it’s clear from your comments in this thread that you’d rather blame the coaching staff on a 2 seed team, that’s lifted us from the bottom of the west, over Cam.
He literally did, if all you are watching is garbage time you aren't paying attention, overall he shot better than Jalen on the season. After starting 1-21 he shot better than 40% from 3 from December onwards. He made several great passes, he played Defense when given minutes, and yes, it was inconsistent mistakes just like any 20 year old would do.... His ability to get his own shot, is going to be needed especially when we rest players like, KD. You can literally see his improvement in this video.....on both ends......and as he gets older this will become the norm - with maturity. Reed highlights showing a lot of his work with Cam, sure doesn't look like a problem to me, looks like a guy happy for his teammate.... Why aren't all you CamATERS posting videos? Where is your evidence? DD
You don't get Ime's favorites off the floor, literally Jalen stunk a lot of the year and played every game, FVV was below mediocre and still played. That is probably the source of the frustration........just guessing though. DD
Reed Holiday Amen Cam Tate JSJ Green Sengun Even if all the injured guys last year you listed died before the season, Cam is still fighting Tate for starting SF minutes. Cam is unlikely to get 30 mpg through injury as I think enough of those guys live and aren't injured at the same time. He will have to earn them.
I really hope that they are able to figure things out with Cam. He has a ton of talent and should have the opportunity to earn 15 mpg this season. We all know that KD will miss games this year. It would benefit all parties to be cautious with how much/often KD plays. If you look at the Rockets roster without KD, you can see they will have 3 options. Cam, DFS, or Tari will fill KD’s role. I think Cam makes the most sense bc of his abilities on offense. FVV/Reed Cam Amen/Tari Bari/DFS Sengun/Adams
which is reasonable to me. Just do it behind the scenes. Don’t loaf in garbage time, don’t pout on the sideline, don’t make passive agressive statements to the press, don’t brush past your teammates bodying them up because u are frustrated. If Cam had focused on maximizing his opportunities and being a good teammate, he’d be much easier to trade. Everyone’s happy. the Rockets are about as player-friendly of an org as you are gonna find. His agent should know that. It’s a lot to ask a 20 yr old to act like a professional but that’s what Cam should have done last season. Since when do the rockets not take care of players who want out? Now his camp is gonna have to wait longer for teams to make decent offers.
And he'd better hope to be traded to a tanking team. A competitive win-now team will have a much shorter leash for young players.
