If you did that draft 6 days from now when he's 21, what round would be go in? Maybe a more sensible way to do it is by birth year. There's only 40 players born in 2004 or 2005 even in the NBA per Basketball reference. Being in the back half of that is.... fine but not particularly valuable from a trade standpoint. And that doesn't include the 60 or so guys who were just drafted. Frankly I'd be very surprised if anyone thought he's in the top 30 or so of the 2004 and younger. You're talking a group headlined by Wemby, Flagg, Harper, Scoot, Castle, Risacher etc. Maybe he'd be better than most of the second rounders drafted this year? That's about it though. And of course Bronny. Don't forget him.
Meh, that’s not really how I took it. It just said they “could” trade him. We don’t have a FRP next season, for instance. I’d be tempted by a decent 2026 FRP.
Maybe the relationship wasn't salvageable from both sides. With more wings he probably doesn't get a guarantee he will get more playing time vs last year. The Rockets probably don't want a distraction next season with Cam sulking over spot minutes when they are trying to win games.
Landale + Cam + picks to BRK for Terance Mann as part of the ATL, BOS, BRK trade? Maybe go after Hauser in that deal instead? I also like the idea of using Landale + Cam + picks to POR to get Thybulle (but think that is a far shot). Thybulle supposedly is out of the rotation in POR. Just some thoughts. Putting here instead of Random Trade thread until after July 6
At this point they have to trade him. There’s no future where Cam picks up minutes in the rotation. Theres just too much out there now. This has been so public, so desperate. Honestly the way this has played out feels clumsy to me. Ime’s gonna want everyone on the same page, locked in and focused. I no longer see a future where we go into the season with Cam on the roster. Teams know that now. We can’t expect any good offers.
They can keep Cam and waive Jeenathan Williams and be $642k below the tax - which is below the apron by ~$9.6m.
The bold is incorrect. After waiving Landale, they are only 1.7m or so above the tax line which is 7.3m below the 1A.. Waive Williams and you are ~640k under the tax with one open roster spot which they are allowed to leave open.
I think something like this is most likely. There seems to be a lot of "if this, then that" waiting to happen. That's why nothing has been announced other than Capela to Houston. I think this all is going to turn into a 3 team deal eventually with Cam being shipped out as a part of it.
No, they are currently right below the apron to the point that they don't even have room to sign a minimum player. Trading Cam will increase some flexibility under the apron in case they need to make an in-season move to deal with potential injuries or if someone becomes available. But otherwise this roster is basically locked in place to start the season.
The "we don't have minutes" bit people are parroting doesn't even track. How has that become a common talking point? All he's ever had to do was beat out Holiday, Tate and he'd have been playing. It's extremely damning that a guy built like a truck, with a pure stroke and the mentality to stuff someone in the rim can't even beat out Aaron Holiday, Nate Williams and Jae'sean Tate for minutes. Maybe he actually isn't that ****ing good? If there's one thing the NBA can find plenty of it's 6'5" dudes who like to shoot the ball.
Still don’t get this ‘distraction’ framing of Cam. Poor effort, at times yes. With his skill set ( offensively ) he is a valuable rotation asset. No minutes for him??? You think KD plays more than 65-70 games? We’d be lucky with that. Adams, DFS, Capela even less. Add FVV to that list. Fingers crossed with Tari. There’ll be plenty of minutes. It’s up to Cam to be ready when called upon.
My guess is that Ime found him uncoachable and told Stone Cam would not have much of a chance on this team. In a way, you can say that the Rockets are doing Cam a solid to give him a chance to thrive on another team. And it looks like teams know the relationship is irreparable so they are lowballing the Rockets.
I hope the Rockets aren't in a rush to trade Cam. It really doesn't make sense for them to be. He is about as cheap as you can get, and pretty talented. Even if he is a problem, how much damage can he do with no playing time? How much playing time would whoever we could replace him with get? Non-player assets sound even less useful. I'd rather let our good coach work on getting some production from him. With a clean slate and hard work, I think Cam could earn playing time even with all the other players we have on the roster. I really like Cam's talent and hope this is more of a scared straight situation, but it seems less likely as more players get added and more reports come out.
