To me that doesn't seem to be enough experience to be the OC of a NFL team. I guess Kubiak is the real OC anyways
I think that's the case. I've heard the scenario that Creepy Crawl mentioned a few times, too (Kyle does a few years as the Texans OC, moves to the same job in Denver, then takes over for daddy). He'd be the OC, but Kubiak and Gibbs would pretty much run the offense. I agree with you on Major. I think he might be back if/when Greg Davis finally leaves or gets lynched. Then he'd be in line to take over for Mack when he's ready to go do ads for Time Warner and get paid as a speaker...a la Daryl Royal. Funny coincidence...Fred Akers is in my office right now.
some Major news today from Kirk Bohls.... statesman With rumors swirling about the possible return of Longhorn legend Major Applewhite to Austin as new running backs coach with a possible title attached, here’s what we know. Texas has an opening for a running backs coach. Texas has not officially contacted Alabama about talking to the young Crimson Tide offensive coordinator. Applewhite has always been interested in coming back to the place where he starred and is still hero-worshipped. I know Major has contemplated returning someday as a running back or wide receiver or quarterback coach. This could be the time. Probably won’t, but don’t kill the idea completely. After all, Applewhite is already an offensive coordinator at a prestigious SEC school. Alabama confirms there has been no contact or request for permission to even talk to Applewhite, who is in Tuscaloosa, Ala., and not at the coaches convention in Anaheim. An Alabama insider said he didn’t think there was anything to the story, but I think that is premature. One Texas source described reports of his return as inaccurate and said Applewhite would not return as co-offensive coordinator. I believe him. I do not think that is in the plans. Greg Davis will remain as offensive coordinator, but he is an Applewhite confidante and has been for a long time. It’s reasonable to think Applewhite could come as running backs coach/associate or assistant head coach. He is that well-regarded and that beloved by Longhorn fans. But it just seems the timing is not right. If he were to bring back Major, Mack Brown could strike another blow for his renewed and rising popularity since that awful loss to Texas A&M. Brown could be reversing his lagging popularity faster than Hillary Clinton by soundly whipping Arizona State in the Holiday Bowl, by demoting Duane Akina, by “accepting” the misplaced Larry Mac Duff’s resignation as linebacker coach and by landing Auburn’s Will Muschamp, easily Mack’s best hire in 10 seasons. It is true that the University of Houston contacted Applewhite twice about its head coaching job, which was filled by Oklahoma’s co-offensive coordinator Kevin Sumlin, and Alabama’s Nick Saban encouraged Major to visit with the Cougars to get more experience with the process. It is also true that Texas A&M approached Applewhite about a job on Mike Sherman’s staff, but only through an intermediary and never through official channels. So don’t hold your breath for Major’s return unless Mack’s other plans fall through
Wait wait. The rumor is that Applewhite would leave the position as OC for Alabama to be the running backs coach for Texas. el oh el
