Do you know if Calvin's radio show is ending because he is going back to the Rockets or is he getting canned because of low ratings (or something else) and just happens to be landing a gig with the Rockets?

I'm floored at all the Calvin love in this thread. I'm not denying that Calvin is capable of some good basketball talk. The problem is he rarely used that talent. Instead he put on his pity me act with Bill, or sang, or went off on terribly unfunny tangents.

Clyde just spouts non sequiturs and repeats either what Bill just said or some over the top compliment. He's really pointless and adds absolutely nothing more than a parrot on Bill's shoulder would.

Bull actually talks some good hoops, but his jokes are corny. Usually he doesn't use too many, but they are always there. Still the jokes aren't Calvin-level bad, they don't last as long, and aren't as prevalent as Calvin's numerous jokes.

I still think the best color guy we've had the past 15 years was Van Chancellor's short gig. His accent was grating, but they guy talked basketball and didn't try to delve into comedy. It was nice getting all hoop talk for a change.

How freaking hard is it to get a knowledgeable color guy who will talk smart basketball and not try to be a comedian? I appreciate trying to get someone from Rocket history to be on the broadcasts, but it would be better if competency was the primary attribute we were looking for. Calvin is not the solution.

Yes, he had a feeling that this would be some of the questions about him leaving his show but he distinctely said that he was fortunate at being given another opportunity to be a part of the Rockets organization.

If he's lying and isn't back with them, we'll know it cause he won't be heard or seen from by any of us. He assured that wasn't the case though.

Calvin back? If the news is true, that would be the best news so far for me.

Lost in all of this is how strong Bill Worrell has been over the years. To me it's amazing his talent to call plays, keep the color commentator under control and maintain his cool.

Not sure how old he is, but I would think that the constant game and travel schedule would have to age you faster than normal. We might be having to adjust to his replacement before long.

In a perfect world Murphy would return to broadcasting and take Clyde's spot and Clyde can be a players coach and teach Ariza how to dribble among other things.

Clyde couldn't dribble without his head down.

I personally hope that calvin replaces drexler. I have always like bullard. He is entertaining and sometimes even funny. He does complain quite a bit about some calls but at least it shows he cares and is down for the Rockets. I always thought of bullard as a voice for us fans. When the refs are giving us bad calls you can always count on bullard to let them know.

Another thing he offers is basketball insight when he does his bulls eye view replays which is a lot more than clyde has to offer with his monotone voice and his ridiculous phrases ("like clubbing baby seals").

Some of it definitely has to do with all the awkwardness (lame jokes, whining, repetitivenes) of Calvin's replacements.

The way the Rox are playing right now, I am almost hoping he is playing instead of broadcasting.

I think this is great news, I hope it is true. I actually really enjoy Clyde, but Calvin was just way better and funnier.

That's true to a degree. If Murphy had an open look he was going to take the shot. Since he made close to 50% of his shots, that was probably a good call on his part. Murphy did lead the team in assists three times. Two of those three years he averaged more than 7 assists per game. That's not too bad for someone who is usually thought of as just a scorer. As a comparison, Brooks is averaging about 5 assists per game this year . Although, I'm not saying Brooks is a great assist man or anything.

Murphy was probably the best dribbler I ever saw, and that was when they wouldn't let you carry the ball very much.

But that's why I enjoy Clyde. Bill doesn't really need a partner (it's doesn't take 2 people to talk about what's going on), but Clyde adds some comedy that makes their gamecasts more enjoyable.

I appear to be the minority however.

I'm extremely disappointed if this is true!!!

I was a huge Calvin Murphy fan for many years. When they had losing seasons, he was the only reason I'd watch the Rockets.

But I found the charges by 5-- I repeat 5-- daughters, to be very credible!!! It's really disappointing to see so many people on this board to jump on this bandwagon and act like nothing ever happened or just sweep it under the rug.

I know how charming Calvin can be. As I said, I was a huge fan of his myself for many years. But beyond your personal biases, how likely is it that 5 daughters are going to all band together and make up all this if it wasn't true and stick to their stories years later?

What would you think if it was someone who hadn't been a star basketball player and didn't have such an engaging personality?

In the highly unlikely scenario that he did not abuse them, what kind of father do you think he was to have them say this about them?

Even if you don't want to believe the abuse was true, I don't see how someone could say there is at least not a strong possibility that his 5 daughters were telling the truth.

I think this is a horrible decision by the Rockets organization and hope they'll change their mind. If not, I for one, will stop watching them.

I hope some others of you, will be honest with yourself about this and voice your concerns also. This is a lot more important issue than just basketball, and I believe that if you're not part of the solution, then you're part of the problem.

It's not for us to decide whether what's true or not. He will get what he deserves when he's dead, God will take of that. What we know is what he gave us as a basketball player, a trainer at times and mainly for the new generation of fans: as a broadcaster. He did well and Clyde is so horrible that change is needed. Jout of curiosity, what kind of abuse are we talking about here and he pleaded not guilty right ?
