T-mac is a great talent but he doesn't step up his game in the playoffs. He's not like Wade or Kobe they can carry a team of scrubs and win tough victories. T-mac doesn't want that responsiblity! He's said it over and over again he wants to defer to Yao or to who ever wants to be the go to guy. Untill this team can rely on Yao or Scola or another player in the clutch I say we don't go very far. T-mac really has become the utilmate role player in the latter part of his career we just refuse to call him what he really is.
Whoever said the Spurs run a motion offense...well, they don't. Duncan posts up 75% of the time, with Parker cutting off him, Bowen spotting up and the other 4 opposite ready for a rebound or a drop pass if Duncan is double-teamed. Maybe 2-3 passes per possession, tops. The Rockets did need a new offensive strategy, but nothing extreme. More athleticism. More mobility. Better shooting and production from the bench core. But in 3-4 years, people will be wanting Adelman gone. He can certainly get to the "big one" but never completes the job. IMO, he doesn't stress defense and rebounding as much as he should, and that'll come back to bite us. This team is not successful when opponents are given MORE possessions per game because, aside from Battier, we have players who aren't totally enamored with defense and can sustain it on that end for 48 minutes.
This is assuming Bonzi/Scola/Francis would see playing time with JVG or would be ALLOWEd to play Rocket River
Calvin is right about T-Mac. ANd I tend to think he's right about how the Rockets are going to use Yao Ming. JVG had right right idea, but his offense wasn't flexible enough. You just needed a more creative JVG offense that was still based on Yao Ming's low post, but be flexibile enough to mix it up. I'm not sure Adelman's approach is right. We'll see. I'd hate to see Yao Ming turned into a Brad Miller.
daddy cool, You're dead wrong, and all of that "proof" that you posted is dead wrong as well. The Spurs run post plays for Duncan, and isolations for Parker and Ginobli, with the occasional kick out to Bowen on the wing or the center at the high post. The Spurs pass less than the Rockets did last year, but it's mostly passing in-and-out, which traditionally has been the most effective in the NBA.
Oh daddy cool, I don't think you quite understand what motion offense is. Motion does not mean one man cuts to the basket and the star player passes it to him. Google it and they have some good lectures on what it is.
You either live in a cave or you are delusional. Of course they run post plays and isolation plays for their go to players but at the same time they for a fact run motion offense and I can present to you many more articles which confirm the facts and you are seriously and i mean seriously tripping if you say the spurs pass less then the rockets in a half court game. You need to read the artciles or go watch soem spurs game tape or understand what you sport you are folllowing. Further more The material I presented to you backs up the real so theyir really is no reason to continue talking with you about this issue if you choose to clearly, flat out ignore the facts.
There are many types of motion offense, but I already put the facts down and you must don't understand the game or what world you are in right now.
No it doesn't. You probably need to go watch tape. Watch duncan come out high post and intiate the offense as yao was doing the other night. I presented the facts,so now you tell me why they don't run a motion offense.
I can show you plenty of tape and plenty of similarties that say different. If they don't run a motion offense then we are watching another sport.
The hardest man to cover is a moving big man, Dream on the move was a killer. I disagree with Calvin because the game has changed with large big men like 6'8" and above quickly moving to cut off those open outside shots. MJ, Scottie, and Crew. That slow down pound it in half court offense bogs down in the playoffs.
He may be a bit harsh on McGrady, but I agree with Calvin. I think Yao will end up in the low post most of the time once the season starts. Adelman is just experimenting right now.
Weslinder had it right. Just because you pass the ball a lot doesn't mean it's a motion offense. A motion offense entails PLAYER movement, not necessarily ball movement. A motion offense is like Golden State, old Sacramento teams, Phoenix, etc...where the players continue to move and cause mismatches in the defense. Teams like SA, Houston, Utah, etc are good passing teams, but that does not mean they run a motion offense. A motion offense means all five players are reading and reacting to the defense. You can't say that for SA.
motion offense is bobby knight offense...not rick adelmans. just because there is player movement doesnt make it a motion offense. study people study...learn the terminology of the game. adelman runs his corner series which incorporates a lot of player movement and reads by where the ball is passed. however, he will also call set plays for individuals like yao and tracy. this guy is an offensive genius. to appreciate it, you have to know basketball and basketball terminology. maybe coach a can fly to asia to give one of his basketball 101 lectures so that people can appreciate what they are watching
