Bill and Calvin are the best and most entertaining commentators in the league. Those 2 have amazing chemistry.....I reaaly hope these allegations are false and Calvin can return to his post as quick as possible.
It's his CHILDREN. Goodness. If it was some random stranger I might be able to shrug it off as not being true, but his children? and 5 of them? Either it really happened, (at least, in their minds) or it's a big conspiracy to get money from their father which just seems odd. Wouldn't there be easier ways to do this? All I know is it's surreal.
I hope this is not true. However, if there's nothing to begin with then why the DA would charge him. There's definitely something going on. It's different from the Kobe or Michael Jackson thing. It doesn't matter if you're a hall of famer or a celebrity, if you do something illegal, you should pay the price just like everyone else.
I have League Pass and I have heard many color commentators including Chick Hearn, but I enjoyed Calvin the most. It has to be false because if it isn't, then I would rather watch the games in mute. Who would have ever known that yesterday's game might have been Calvin's last. Bill and Calvin have the best chemistry and it wont be the same if he don't come back. p.s. Fire cooper!
This is terrible! Doesnt he work with a lot of children? I know he goes and talks to children and works with them, taking them on trips. This is not good and I hope this isnt true...............but if it is....he shouldnt be treated differently....I dont believe it though.

Former Rocket Murphy charged with molesting 5 of his children By ROSANNA RUIZ Copyright 2004 Houston Chronicle Former Houston Rocket Calvin Murphy, 55, was charged today with sexually molesting five of his own children in the late 1980s and early 1990s, a Harris County prosecutor said. Murphy, a Sugar Land resident and now color commentator for the team, was charged with three counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child and three counts of indecency with a child, said Lance Long, an assistant district attorney. The charges involve incidents that are alleged to have occurred from 1988-1991, Long said. The five girls are now adults, Long said, and are Murphy's children by three different women. Murphy has a total of 14 children, he said. If convicted, Murphy faces five years to life in prison for the aggravated offenses and two to 20 years for the others, Long said. However, he added, Murphy does not have a criminal history and could be eligible for probation if he is convicted. Long would not reveal the origin of the investigation, saying only that it has been ongoing for several weeks. He declined to confirm reports that Murphy, a member of the NBA Hall of Fame, was expected to turn himself in today. Long urged anyone else who "thinks they've been treated inappropriately" by Murphy to call the district attorney's office at 713-755-6178. He would not say whether he knows of other alleged victims. I'll wait until I hear details about this to judge either way. Saying he's innocent, and accusing his children of lying, or saying he had to have done this, both have no basis right now. Unless some of us knew Calvin, of his kids really well, we don't have anything other than are own prejudice to base an opinion on.
Sage, sexually molestation is a very wide encomposing charge, which could range from rape to watching them take off their clothes and making them feel uncomfortable, and everything in between. Thus, the penalties could be just as variable. It will be interesting when they say what exactly happened, (if they ever do.) The thing that caught my eye is that the investigation has been ongoing for several "weeks." I don't think they would file these charges lightly.
Random, your words are wisdom are correct. I'm just still in shock by the very accusation. Also, the fact that it's coming from w/in his family - his OWN CHILDREN! for chrissake - just makes it all the more shocking. Although I wish I could reserve judgment, this charge definitely casts a long shadow over the voice and face of the Rockets that I've come to respect. What a sad day in Rocket history. sadSAGE

Man this is sad, something tells me we might have seen Calvin call his last game. Guilty or not, I don't see the orginization having him back because they'll be worried about their rep. But I hope Im wrong.
That's not entirely true. Molestation involves physical touching, indecency with a minor would encompass everything else.
Growing up as a Houston Rockets fan, Calvin Murphy has just always been there. He's so familiar to me that he damn near feels like family to me. That being the case, I hope to god this isn't true. However, 5 of his own kids by three different mothers? Do you understand the unlikelyhood of that being false? You have to get not just five of his own children to conspire against him but five of his own children who may not have even known each other growing up since some of them have different mothers? I'm really interested in learning more about this but I'm very heart broken over this situation. At best, it's a false accusation but even then I can't fathom the hurt it would cause Calvin. At worst, it's true and then I can't fathom the hurt he caused his children. There really is no way to look at this situation in which it isn't heart breaking. I'm in shock..... i can't even care about the outcome of the rockets game tonight with this occupying my thoughts.
