I don't think that would be the case. If you notice the board was great last year, even with all the YOFs. I was around last year, but rarely posted. The only reason I became more active, is because this year the board became infested with YOBs (Yao only bashers), which turned the bbs into a degenerate teenage discussion forum. I had to debunk all their hate with my infallible logic and reasoning. For the most part I don't get into name calling with people and just add them to my ignore list which have probably 15 YOBs on it. People can do the same to me. The funny thing is Yao isn't even my fav player. Steve Nash is.
Ah, you spelled that wrong. It's not N-A-S-H it's F-r-a-n-c-i-s... Sheeesh. All this stuff that gets lost in translation.....
This season more than any I can remember, Hall of Famer Calvin Murphy has been super critical of the Rockets play. As a shooter, he's probably very frustrated by our inability to knock down the open jumpers. As someone who's played with big men, he knows the importance of keeping your big man happy and getting him involved early. I think Calvin's voicing his opinion - that the entire offense needs to run through Yao. Shoot, KG touches the ball on EVERY possession for Minnesota. Why can't Yao touch it every time we have the ball?
Yup, he sure is. I mean, it's not like he played for the team or anything. It's not like is in the Hall of Fame as a Houston Rocket or anything. It's not like he's paid by the team as a spokesman who normally hypes its players or anything. Oh wait...
Kinda like Bill Walton, eh Calvin is not a YOF, because of the fact that he was all gaga over Francis, the First few years Fracis was here. Then Yao came, and took the spotlight off of him.
Calvin Murphy is completely right. Everything MUST go through Yao. When Yao was established in the first half, everything opened up for Rockets shooters the second half. The Celtics doubled Yao off the ball, and other players got open shots. I mean that's how it's supposed to be pick your poison. It should be mandatory for the Rockets to open every game trying to establish the post.
IF the players would only listen, they'd learn a lot from Calvin. They could start with free throws. Are you listening YAO? Talk to Calvin about free throws under pressure, Mr. brick. Steve could have a listen, too, of course. And the other 4 shooting guards. And the rest, yeah, let him run drills for charity. Maybe they'll be embarressed by the baton twirlers..
silliest thing I ever heard. Murph been a Rocket since 1970 which means he has seen the success of centers, Elvin Hayes, Mo Malone and dream. And he is a great student of the game. Its basic Basketball if the center is good and the offence goes thru them thing flow easy for the guards
Since Calvin just spend nearly an entire hour defending Steve Francis to callers on 610 saying he is having a great season and people all want things to happen overnight when they take time, I guess he's not. One guy even suggested he was easy on Steve because they are friends. Calvin said, "I'm 55 and he's like 25. We don't hang out together!"
I don't like your definition of YOF. After all, other than people live in Houston, most fans got connected with the team because they like one or more players with the team. There is nothing wrong with that as long as they cheer for the player AND the TEAM. Very few people here actually want Yao to do well at the expense of the Rockets TEAM. They are labed YOF because others didn't like they constantly talk about YAO. Yes, many fans will leave if Yao leaves the Rockets, but that's true with any sports team. Those fans are still the Houston Rockets fans NOW as long as they care about the Rockets. --daoshi
whether you like it or not...Clutch was spot-on in his description of YOFs. any fan who would quit following the Rockets if Yao left IS a Yao Only Fan. Period.
People got too excited after a win, especially with a good game from Yao. "The Rockets should run their entire offense via Yao", "Yao should touch the ball in every possesion". Common, you guys can't be too serious, right? Nowdays, NBA teams are so sophiscated, they can shut down any single player at any time if they want to. It makes no sense to commit your entire offense on one person. It's just silly to demand Yao to touch the ball on every possesion. I agree that Yao should be the offensive focus, but let's not get carried away there. There are other FOUR guys out there, some of them are quite capable of playing as well. After all, basketball is a TEAM sports, you have to be a team to win the big one. ---daoshi
