it's been covered before. if the weakside help is far enough away for the backboard pass to work, then they are also far enough away for a lob to work. no need to create the extra degree of difficulty with the angle and rim.
The best way is for another offensive player to pick off the man fronting Yao and almost at the same time the Point Guard passes the ball to him as he becomes open with one step .
how about drive to the whole and dish the ball of to yao or give it to him around the freethrow line? he can shoot over his defender at anytime so he just needs to hae the ball in his hands in shooting range.
I do believe Yao managed to grab successive offensive rebounds in the Magic game. In fact he did grab more offensive rebounds lately compared to earlier in the season. I think we have to be more objective when judging his abilities instead of making blanket comments such as "he can't grab an offensive rebound for his life", that he "can't be relied on to grab a key rebound", etc. Being realistic is important, but it is wrong to underestimate Yao.
simple, lob it to yao BUT let's say brooks is making the pass make sure the other guys (artest, battier) are outside in the 3 pt range therefore making their defender go to them (keep scola on the outside as well, but close enough so he could sneak in and shoot a pass to him for a lay-up if they cant get it to yao) than lob it to yao for a dunk or whatever he's gonna do
Can't Yao just set a screen for the person trying to get him the ball? I think Brooks can easily get to the rim.
I would point out that unless the ball is at the top of the key, Yao would have to be on the weakside for the geometry of a pass off the backboard to make sense. Also, fronting defense rarely means that the defense is just standing between Yao and the ball. Watch the fourth quarter of the Mavs game and see if Brandon Bass was actually in a position where he could be sealed off that easily.
10 RPG in 32 MPG isn't terrible really, so quit your whining. He does have room to improve though, for sure. Yao needs to hoard those offensive rebounds. Look for our perimeters players to either lob it to Yao or possibly swing it to the other side for an alley-hoop.
