I am optimistic that Butler would will them to the 6th and even scratching at 5th.......dude is on a mission barring injuries.

We never even achieved a 2nd seed during the prime harden era

Huh, I would not have guessed that.

eta: and I would have been correct. #2 seed in 2015, #1 in 2018

I can't figure out why, if true, nba.com's standings don't say so.

I just counted we had 11 games left, PHX has 11 games left. If we lost all and they won all, we would still have more wins. Their glossary doesn’t list a “clinched play-in,” only “clinched playoff berth, division, conference, and eliminated.”

No, it lists "clinched play-in", which is why I'm confused (or more confused than usual)

After the Lakers lose tonight to the Bulls, Rockets will be two losses ahead of them and the Nuggets for #2.

I'm also gonna go out on a limb and say the Rockets will beat the Nuggets tomorrow because Jokic isn't playing. That would put them 3 games ahead AND give them the tie-breaker. With only 10 games left in the season, I seriously doubt the Nuggets would gain 4 games. Grizzlies are already in that same exact position with the Rockets.

Lakers would remain a challenger for #2.

I love that "Prime Harden" lasted exactly the one year you decided it did.

Nevermind the top 5 MVP finishes or anything.

    14: 5
    15: 2
    17: 2
    18: 1
    19: 2

The Rockets SHOULD beat the Nuggets sans Jokic. But we saw what happened vs the Sixers last Monday. They barely got a win against a G League team that was tanking.

Don’t tell that to the Philly players. They played their ass off.

Yeah, they all showed up to play--and again, Quentin Grimes has been playing like a legit superstar recently, like legitimately better than Ant Edwards or Donovan Mitchell. Damn near SGA level. He had possibly his best game of his career against us. If you throw a player like that onto a team of scrubs, they're not going to be an easy out, especially if some of the scrubs get hot from 3. Probably a mixture of us not taking them seriously and playing lazy defense, and them legitimately playing well. As long as we take Denver seriously we'll be okay, if we don't then of course they can beat us--their starting squad is a legit NBA team even without Jokic, it's mainly their bench that is a garbage fire.

In any case, with all these losses lately in the 5-8 range, we're really starting to open up some distance between us and the 5th seed. We're still going to need to take care of business and pick up at least a few more wins, but it's starting to look pretty good for having HCA in the first round at least.
