How so? Becaue you can't noob toob with one man army? Because you can't boost to get nukes? Because there's no danger close?
See I liked the Arbiter character...and Halo Legends helps to shed some back story on that role within the Elite/Covenant culture. My only beef was, not that you played him, but that you played him an equal amount of time as the Chief. Probably should have been more like 70-30 or 75-25 split. Loved the cut scenes in Halo 2, Halo 3 had a little cheese toward the end but was still fine, and Halo 1 is good but is definitely dated to me (and so repetitive). But one of my favorite parts in the whole series is storming the beach on The Cartographer mission. Reach, played it twice, and it really does have a tight, focused, gripping and simplistic story. I only wish they would have involved the Chief in the cut-scenes in the beginning and especially end. COD is awesome, but the franchise as a whole (not just MW) is not as nearly intriguing to me as Halo as a whole.
That's ridiculous. For all the praise you give Halo, you crap all over it by comparing it to Gears. Halo does have a good setting and some likable characters. Gears have none. Well, maybe they will have some now that they have female Gears in 3 now. Console shooters take zero skill.
It's only ridiculous if you haven't read the novels. There's a very rich story there that never was really told all that well in the games. Hopefully that'll change with the third one because Karen Traviss is helping to write it. Again when I'm looking at a game, a lot of the times I'm looking at the experience, the story first...that story might not necessarily flesh itself out primarily in the game alone. The Gears novels made me WANT to play the game even more. And they are a big reason why I was let down by what happened with Marcus toward the end of the second game. But there also a big reason why I've come to love these characters so much. Hell even the two biggest hard asses who seemingly have zero depth, Marcus and Baird, have a lot more soul now after reading the novels.
It's epic because there is no bull in the game that ruins it. In Black Ops you have to actually have skill to take down your oppenent. You can't rely on "easy kills" like in MW2. BO really maximizes your ability to use guns in fps, and see how good you really are.. BTW, how bout them Tigers?
Master Chief was in Cryogenics and taken on the Pillar of Autumn during the fall of Reach. You can see him in the cut scene following the 10th mission. Halo because it has the way better multiplayer, it has Co-op campaign, and the World War series of COD wasn't fun to me.
That's the thing...it doesn't make sense that he was in cryogenics. He had a pretty important role in Fall of Reach...and while I certainly didn't want them to focus on his mission, cause Halo: Reach wasn't his story, it would have been nice to tie the game into the novel a little bit better there at the end.
They're just very different FPS that are hard to compare in many ways. One of the things that I've always liked about Halo is the simplicity of it. Everybody starts off with the same guns and there's no perks like in COD. Call of Duty on the other hand, is a more realistic shooter, especially considering the fact that you can kill your opponents pretty quickly whereas in Halo it seems to take an entire clip to bring an enemy down. Also, it depends on which specific games in the series you're talking about. Halo 1 was an all-time classic game that sort revolutionized the FPS, but it's hurt by the fact that you couldn't play online and Halo 2 I thought was pretty good, not quite as good as the first, but it had alot of elements from Halo 1 that I liked. Halo 3 was total garbage and I consider Reach to be OK but not along the lines of the first 2 in the series. Call of Duty really didn't seem to really become huge until the first Modern Warfare. Things like killstreaks and perks were great additions until they just seemed to go way overboard in Modern Warfare 2. Black Ops somewhat fixed that issue in that people can't get as out of control with kill streaks, which is good. Also, I've always been a fan of the Call of Duty maps over those in Halo. I've been a big fan of both of these series, but to be honest, I find myself playing Call of Duty more these days just due to the fact that I strongly prefer Black Ops over Reach and that I can't even play my 2 favorite games in the Halo series online anymore.
