Since he is a RFA,it's going to be hard to pry him the Kings. They are in no mood to help the Rockets out, therefore management will end up overpaying if they go after him and hope that their offer won't be matched.
Why are the Rockets always concentrating on getting players that are bench warmers for other teams and also wasting so much time on free agents who is not really worth the money and the roster space. Rockets drafted Landry in the 2nd round and thinking that he is the missing piece in our team...We do need a power forward, why don't we just trade one of our useless guards for a good rebounder who can finish around the rim.
Okay your first post sucked. Let's see if you can improve on your next one. Are maybe you should quit while you're behind.
So we would be doing him a favor by helping him get paid! We should have signed him last year while yao was injured.
I am not sold on Morey nor do I believe he's just a number crunching crackpot. I don't know. What I do know is that ex-NBA players are destined to being great GMs. Kust look at Jerry West and his protege, Mitch Kupchak. Teammates Kevin McHale, Larry Bird, and Danny Aint. Teammates Joe Dumars and Zeke. Elgin Baylor, Wes Unseld, Wayne Embry. Successes and lots of flat out failures. I wish I knew the definitive answer. Or knew someone who could share it with me.
PLEASE read more closely as I was using examples of ex NBAers who stink as GMs. He was anologized with Dumars. Kupchak v West. The stench of ex teammates on the great Celtics teams of the 80s. Etc. Morey cannot be abused because of his credentials when seeminly well credentialed guys are laughing stocks. Some succeed, too many fail. Where will DM the GM rank?
http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/rumors/post/Pistons-close-to-10M-deal-with-Johnson?urn=nba,38761 END OF THREAD: Pistons close to $10M deal with Johnson Tuesday, Jul 10, 2007 12:41 pm EDT Detroit Pistons' forward Amir Johnson could re-sign as early as Wednesday. The Pistons are getting close to finalizing a three-year deal with Johnson that would pay him close to $10 million. Pistons general manager Joe Dumars has made it clear across the league that he was matching any offer for Johnson, so teams have pretty much stayed away. Source: Detroit News Related: Detroit Pistons
Man, have you ever hit the nail on the proverbial head. From the list of names you've given only Dumars & West could be considered great GMs. The rest absolutely stink. Kupchak was doing OK until Kobe decided to run that franchise into the ground so he at least gets a C grade but the rest of that group is monkey poo. Nobody knows what kind of GM Morey will make although from what I've seen so far, I'm not encouraged. His past draft was completely baffling to me and I really don't trust anything he says publicly. I was not impressed with the Mike James pickup because it was not enough of an upgrade at the PG spot to make them anything more than workable at best. To date, the PF position is a gaping hole that looks to be manned by 2 undersized guys who will play hard but will fall short in the end. Everybody in the West looks to have improved while the Rockets are moving laterally. I have to confess that I've begun to lower my already low expectations for the upcoming season.
we can't expect earth shattering roster moves every summer, hill. It takes championship teams years to gel into a cohesive unit. the worst thing you can do is overreact and make a short sighted move which could cripple you financially in the long run. while this teams roster has its flaws...that same flawed team could have easily been in the WCF this year. it's easy to be pessemistic during long stretches of mind-numbing inactivity...it's driving us all crazy. but keep in mind this team as is would enter the season stronger than it was last year.
It is too early for me to judge him yet. I don't consider the Brooks pick as just Morey but Morey/Adelman and Les. In an open running offense Brooks could pose plenty of problems for a lot teams. As for the gaping PF spot, I agree, and for all the indications in the news they aren't close to trading for one we all will be happy with. It appears that Amir is staying in Detroit, and there have been no rumors on any of the other Detroit PF's so I am in a wait and see mode. It is still early.
The West is one injury away from the Lotto. Today only Sac, Minny and Seattle seem to be locked out. Only Mavs, Suns, Spurs seem locked in. So, what Morey and the good and the very bad GMs do between now and Nov 1 likely determine the outcome. Encouraged? No. But, pedigree? Look at all the pure breed curs. Then you can look at DM the GM.
I think Rox management simply does not want to spend any more money. That is why you hear Morey talking about improving through trades. If Kobe was available and willing to play for the Rockets for the midlevel exception they would probably turn him down.
Or they don't want to tie up resources for an extended period of time where they could lose out on other potential free agents. Dumars has done a great job manipulating the media on this deal. Kudos to him.
I'm guessing there's probably a reason he's a GM of an NBA team and you're whining on an internet message board. Can we at least wait until some of these guys have played a game before passing judgment?
