Yes, if the crime committed by any criminal was not a crime, they would not be a criminal. Try it for any crime. Someone would not be speeding if traffic law and policy did not make it illegal to drive faster than a set limit. That doesn't change the fact that it was illegal for them to migrate here under the method they used (there is such a thing as legal immigration). Crime should not be rewarded or ignored.

I think that's a good point. I know one guy who is well-educated but undocumented. He works a typical trade for illegals -- construction. But, he runs his own business and often acts as a general contractor so he does pretty well for himself. Don't know how common that might be.

The thing that concerns me most is that there is empowerment that comes along with education. The under-educated will be exploited and will have low expectations of themselves. It's not good for the individual, but it's doubly bad for a definable population of people all linked together by race, culture, and blood. Success has a virtuous circle where a person can be encouraged and supported by the success of the people in his circle. If a person's circle is filled with people who don't go to college, who don't make big money, who get exploited by others -- it's more likely the same will happen for them. And then we're left with a large, identifiable underperforming and exploited sub-population that (even if we fix our immigration problem) will take decades to fix. Even if they're under-employed, college-educated illegals will have a better sense of what is possible to be achieved.

If we educate the undocumented workers, how am I going to find day laborers to pick up from Home Depot parking lots or find bags of oranges to buy from the street?

If we educate illegals, they'll have an even greater opportunity to take our JERBS!!

I'm usually all for giving immigrants help, but I don't see the benefit in this.

It's hard enough for educated Americans to find jobs right now, how will educated immigrants fare any better?

I think a better way to help would be to make it easier for immigrants (legal and illegal) to become citizens.

This country is going to become very brown and Spanish-speaking within the next twenty years, regardless of immigration policy.

It just makes sense to ensure that the people living here can be taxed.
