so your objection is to my highlighting a representation and not highlighting it as such?

got it. my error was in assuming the denizens of the d&d were possessed of basic reading comprehension skills, but i'll be more explicit next time.

so, why do you think the black community (pgabs would say there's no such thing- i'm extrapolating from his comment about there being no black church) is represented as being anti-gay marriage? is it a media creation, or is there some truth in the "representation?"

its a continuation of a long history in this country of scapegoating blacks.

secondly, its mainly the patronizing of the black community, "hey blacks, where would you be if people didn't support civil rights in the past"

makes for some nice supposed irony

but the question is why are you focused on the "black community" , when it was the mormons who got this proposition on the ballot, and its the whites in the south who support the same candidates you support, who vote on issues like constitutional bans on gay marraige, so much so the candidates you support use this as an issue to rally their base?

yes, mormons may have gotten this on the ballot, but whites in the south did not pass Prop 8, a coalition of latino, black, and yes, some whites, did. a substantial proportion of this coalition were Obama supporters, who apprently share his values on the subject.

i (believe) you've mentioned elsewhere that gay marriage is no a high priority for you (i may have inferred this). if so, why do you care whether black Obama supporters were instrumental in passing Prop 8?

I care about your implication that blacks are holding back the rights of gays. its ridiculous, as in the article I pointed out at the beginning of the thread, its mostly a generational issue. which makes your first paragraph wrong, the people obama brought are young, and they voted overwhelmingly against prop eight.

and please don't try to lie your way out of what your real issue is. you already stated in another thread that you have friend who is a fellow singer who is black who is gay who has complained to you about what he goes through with other blacks.

basso what you are implying has already been shown to not be true.

The majority of voters who voted in prop 8 were white McCain supporters. That has been shown in the original thread where you tried to blame Obama supporters.

The majority of Obama voters also voted against prop 8.

Obama himself was against prop 8.

Quit trying to imply otherwise. You were burned on it before when you tried to insinuate, and the fact that you found someone who fits into a group you are trying to blame who was in favor of prop 8 doesn't change that.

and the attempt to steer the thread away from the battle you lost begins.

No, basso, my objection is to your representation, itself, and to your disposition towards divorcing yourself from it when convenient. Race-bait-and-switch.

Funny, since you completely missed my point (you actually got it backwards, inasmuch as you got it at all).

When you talk about "black community" or "black church" or other such vague groupings, context is extremely important. So, in a sense, pgabs is right that there is no such thing taken alone. What is revealing is that you refuse to discuss these concepts in any concrete context--as in when people bring up polling numbers that shatter your fantasy world. Instead, you prefer to float in the vacuum of identity politics. How's the air up there?

I can't believe you guys are wasting your time and energy debating such meaningless, trivial BS when Jessica and Tony just split.

    spineless animals.

Just checking in on the D&D after making myself stay away after a while... basso seems even more absurd than I remember.
