Same reaction to Michael Sam, Jason Collins, etc... was my point.

The transgender community claims Jenner was always a woman. By this stance, Jenner now holds multiple world records in women's athletics (he/she would be on par with Carl Lewis). Should the record books reflect this?

Regardless of motives - the impact can still be positive.

People want to make money in this world. Want fame and accolades. Go figure. I suppose it's no surprise that a gold medalist is driven by a desire for fame.

Still I have to respect someone who essentially is going to make themselves the face of the transgender community. Going from a celebrated American icon to being hated by half the country isn't easy in my book. There is some courage here even if there is some profiteering as well.

It's a good debate to have. I think what the transgender community is saying that Jenner is not physically a woman, but that mentally she was always a woman. She was a woman trapped in a man's body. She is just choosing now to express it to the world.

I think the record books should reflect the physical body types as that's what is fair. I think as a civilization we may need to realize there are two definitions of sex - one is physical and the other is gender identity.

Sanctity and time honored tradition... The ESPY awards  Lol...

I don't believe a bunch of Sons and Fathers are waiting a whole year to watch that award show... But the Gay Mafia runs the entertainment world (according to Fat Joe) so get use to it.

I don't take the ESPY's very seriously and I really can't say whether the other candidates were more deserving than Jenner. It does take courage to come out this publicly as transgender. Having met some transgender people the impression I get from them is that they feel they are subject to more discrimination and harassment than homosexuals now.

There was a recent story from NY about a transgender woman might've been pushed onto train tracks just because she was transgender.

Considering he's gone through hormone therapy and surgery I highly doubt this is just a ploy to get another reality show.

I will take him on his word that he has felt that he really was a woman for a long time but was uneasy about dealing that openly. Times have changed quite a bit for the LGBT community in just the last five years so it doesn't surprise me that he didn't feel like coming out like this until now.

My own personal views are that the Kardashians and Jenners are for the most part vapid and shallow who have built a media empire from people who find their own lives so uninteresting they become obsessed with the lives of celebrities. That doesn't mean what Jenner did and how he did it didn't take courage.

Well, it takes courage to fork over so much money to "change gender" and to plead to a well-known magazine to appease to some attention-whoring.

    SRSLY speaking, though:
Yeah, not even related sports related. Other people who battle REAL life-and-death or extreme circumstances got SHAFTed, pardon the pun.
Why are you bringing homosexuality into this? Is the dude even considered one?

Let's not forget she killed a 69 year old lady via vehicular manslaughter just recently. Why does nobody seem to talk about that?

    1. IMO, I think it is a big ole publicity stunt. That family . . . That group of folx. . . . .. Just the ultimate in Attention w**** Technology
    2. He still has his kibbles and bit so . . . not sure he transgender until you take that final step. If he goes through with it . . . I will believe him/her.

That said . . . .. I still don't think this should garner the award of the Young Lady that died of Cancer. Something courageous about looking death in the eye and still pushing forward. I think Jenner is showing courage but not that level of courage. [if he/she is not just attention w****. . . . but i am skeptical]

Again . . . . like some have said .. . . if he was not associated with the KArdashians I'd be a little more believing.

I think it hurts their community when they look and act like Rodman when going public. Is that part of the deal?!?! Seems like a disservice to real people going through difficult situations who aren't attention whores like Jenner and Rodman types.

What Jenner is doing isn't necessarily brave because he's living in his own little protected rich world... The person who got pushed onto the train tracks _ that's bravery/courage because they have to live amongst the rest of us.

I don't think it is a recent thing that transgender folks face more discrimination than homosexuals.

Yes he did about 4 months ago. He is being sued for wrongful death. People completely forget about this because he is transitioning to a woman and cuz Kardashian. It takes courage for someone to transition but he comes from a family famous for attention whores.

I think we should continue to acknowledge trans- status as a matter of etiquette and political correctness, but I don't believe it's intellectually honest to re-frame and bifurcate a biological feature as a separate social identity.

Jenner isn't facing any hardship in doing this. None. She's made a fortune off reality TV, so being in the spotlight, even in a critical way, has been part of her life for years, but this is ESPN, so ratings trump everything, especially common sense.

Why not? If science is saying that we can be wired mentally to be the opposite sex we are physically, if that's possible and happens, why is it not intellectually honest?
