Except that it is about legislation. Speeches are great but they are meaningless unless they are followed by action and when we talk about a Presidential Administration that primarily means getting an agenda passed.

The "I have a dream speech" would be remembered but not have the same power if the Civil Rights hadn't been passed, and keep in mind the president who did it wasn't a great orator but a cagy horse trading back room dealing politician.

The image of presidencies is often oratory but the real affect of them is legislation. I know Deckard disagrees with me on this and probably you will, but in terms of real change LBJ was far more affective than JFK. JFK made great speeches but didn't get a lot passed. LBJ got a lot passed.

Now you are free to be disappointed in Obama for not being a passionate fighter but you have to consider that he is facing an opposition that is also very passionate in their opposition. It just seems wishful thinking to believe that through the power of oratory he can sway them to his side.

Thanks, I am. He should be on TV every night embarrassing the Republican house. He should make Eric Cantor and Grover Norquist the most reviled men in the nation. The Congressmen won't be swayed, unless they hear from their districts that they won't be re-elected.

But I rarely fail to disappoint myself on a daily basis too.

 

Obama could have passed something when he had control of house, senate and the white house. He did manage to get healthcare done. But he missed an opportunity to get other things done as well. It's understandable because he was new to the office and still feeling things out.

But well, if 2008 Obama knew what this 2011 congress would look like, he might have just pushed everything through instead of compromising

 

Given Congress' 9% approval rating they are doing a good job of being the most reviled men in the nation on their own.

 

Keep in mind though that some of Obama's toughest opposition on health care wasn't just from Republicans but from Democrats Mary Landrieu and Blanche Lincoln and from Independent Joe Lieberman. So just having a 60 vote Senate majority wasn't a guarantee that Obama's agenda was going to be passed.

 

Cain suspends his campaign. Not surprising still open for campaign contributions. I supposw he is also seeking post campaign media/motivation speaker career opportunities once he can't get campaign contributions.

 

The strange phenomena is, everyone disapproves of Congress but they don't disapprove of their Congressman.
