This is true, but it still doesn't mean that people should be content with watching a dumb ending to the plot they're watching, or that the plot is not important. Not saying that will be the case, because I'm sure the show will have a great ending, but just saying that people are right to at least want a good ending to the mystery, and not some bad or obvious twist.

I think if there's any sort of plot twist, it's going to be that Hart is the killer. I could see him eventually emerging as an antisocial pyschopath. It seems to be leading that way, anyways. If you watch for it, he is constantly subtly lying. He constantly seems to be placing some sort of blame on Rust. My working theory for part of the last episode was the Hart did some copy cat killings, and Rust either knew about it, or felt guilty for it, so he went "off the grid" for those years.

Anyways, I agree with PollosHermanos in that a big chunk of the show just shows how each of these people (and everyone, in general) has some sort of character flaws. It also highlights the fact that it's totally crazy because anyone of those character flaws could eventually lead to some kind of mistake, which ruins a case - either by not apprehending the criminal, or apprehending the wrong one.

This is true. It's like reading a novel. But ultimately, if the story doesn't pick up it simply isn't a truly great TV show. Great TV shows do both. This one might win out in some particular category, like visuals or acting, but overall - it's not up there. Not yet. And for it to do that... the trajectory needs to spike up here soon.

Don't get me wrong. I'm loving the show. But I'm a realist.

McConaughey is just awesome in this role. I've never really enjoyed his movies but he is amazing in this.

I was actually thinking the same thing because those two guys together is a killer combo. But if you think of the show as just one really good 8 hour movie its not as bad knowing their not coming back. Hopefully season 2 will net another great combo of actors.

Seemed like Cohle really should have peeked in that school, of course Hart didn't let off the horn. Didn't want him to go in? Wild speculation that of course incriminates Hart somehow.

Hart may have something to do with it, look at the two men now in the present day, one a ruined drunk, the other we at least know has a few businesses, or some success.

    Nice catch.

Well ****... the skin near his jaw does look a bit shiny there. Or whiter than the rest of his skin. And a beard would cover it. The shiny neck/jar alluded to a burn - earlier that episode in an interview with someone at the church. I think y'all are on to something. And if he's back for more episodes? Yeah... there's smoke.

Plus he'll be the protagonist of Christopher Nolan's "Interstellar" later this year.

    Mud.

    Wolf of Wall Street.

    Dallas Buyer's Club.

    True Detective.

    Interstellar.

Lives in Austin (I think?) with his hot Brazilian-born wife and their kids.

Probably gonna win an Oscar this year.

Yeah, life is good for Matthew McConaughey.

My wild speculation is I think it's one of Detective Hart's daughters that is a copy cat killer or knows the copy cat killer somehow. I think as the show progresses, it'll show that Hart's relationship was strained around the time of this case that later became a divorce and split up the family. It might cause some resentment from one his daughters or warp their viewpoint on relationships. His inquisitive daughter that likes to re-enact imaginary rape scenes with toy dolls and keeps getting caught drawing sexual organs at school stumbles upon Hart's casework one night while he's away and sees pictures of the ritual murder scene. It burns a memory in Hart's daughter's mind, who has already shown an early interest in sex and more importantly keeping secrets. I think Hart's daughter will get caught in the prostitution ring as this new murder is 10 years later and that would put Hart's daughter in her late teens to early twenties. Seems to be around that age when girls on this show start becoming prostitutes. Given Hart's viewpoint on monogamous relationships, I think it's safe to say at least one of his daughter is gonna have daddy issues and be the village bicycle for older men. Why not the daughter that's also shown she's a bit perverse and acts out gangbangs with ken dolls and a single barbie doll? Also I think it would help explain why Hart and Cohle are being interviewed about their personal lives and thoughts while uncovering the case.

Could be completely wrong but just throwing that out there since I haven't seen it on this thread.
