I'm really sorry to hear this. I like the characters, and it seems like they could stretch the story out for many more episodes.

Eh probably true, but the positive is that they clearly have a story to tell, know how long to tell it, and when to end it. Won't have any Dexter-esque go-on-for-too-long concerns.

I don't know how this show will be the same without these two. Mconaughey is amazing. I feel like he is echoing some thoughts that I sometimes have. Maybe that's why I think his character is so great. But he is awesome on this show.

Will post my thoughts on this episode later.

    Ugh, stupid Super Bowl lol

But seriously, that was a damn good episode. Both actors were freaking brilliant.

You guys are right, these next two weeks are going to be brutal.

something very off about mconaghey. Wouldn't surprise me if there was a twist at the end with him being a complete psychopath. Yea I know some of the stuff he says is what we all keep inside...but that last minute of the last episode was just pure creepy.

That was the true essence of it, yes, but flashing pictures of dead girls and starting out with "they wanted it...they welcomed it" just came off as super creepy.

Also, apparently they didn't catch the guy...or there is another one because the interviewers did say another murder just like theirs popped up.. It may be a copycat but the show isn't headed in that direction. Would be a total mind**** if Rus. ends up being the mastermind doing the work just to cover his tracks.

I think Russ being the killer is way too obvious.

    Great episode.

The two current detectives definitely have dropped a few hints that they are thinking that way.

I hope not, though, because current Rus is so ****ing creepy that it would be like they were hitting you over the head with a sledgehammer. His monologue about seeing on people's faces that they "welcomed the end" in the most recent episode is like a giant neon sign.

I'm guessing they'll pull the standard detective show bait and switch where they'll accuse him, but it will turn out to be someone else.

Just re-watched first 3 episodes and they are setting it up way too much for Rust to be the copy-cat killer. Would hate for it to be the case and I doubt they do it. Way to obvious.

I think things are setting up nicely for Tuttle to be the cult leader/murderer. Not sure if they find out and go beyond arresting Labeux(?), who I think is just at the bottom of the pyramid.

One thing I've wondered is about the name of the show: True Detective. Why would they call it like that? The writers seem to put so much detail in each episode that I doubt that its just a random name. Do they question the authenticity of the detective? Is he a real detective? If so, could be setting up the disappointing theory that Russ is the killer.

If either of the main two actors are the killer - this goes down as the worst TV of all time.

We know Cohle is full of darkness, and Marty is messed up as well. I think Cohle prolly never comes to terms that they didn't get the right man etc. Or his theories get dumped on by others and he prolly pursues the case on his own to no avail. (It's bigger than just one man?) Haunts him even more than he already was. Just my two cents.

    just in case
That being said, we got another mention of Reverend Tuttle, the white REV we met back in EP 1, he was tied to the school that shut down after Andrew. I felt the second we met him he was it, or at least part of a bigger thing that had their way with women. The current guy they are pursuing is prolly one of many that they can use to take the fall.

remember when hank found the book in walt's restroom and when he walked out marie said something like, walt you are the devil

last night when they were at that bar when mcconaughhey shows up woody said, "the devil" as in speak of the devil and he appears, just reminded me of that, but i agree it would be too obvious if mcconahuey is involved
