every bit of that was from episode 5. I think you got the wrong trailer. Here is a preview of episode 6 with an unfortunate saved shot for the youtube video

Kind of depends how it ends. Its a season long murder mystery and as such could totally fall on its face if it spent all season building up to a crappy ending. They are doing a great job building up the suspense though as you can tell from all the speculating in this thread. The main detective in the show (played by Matthew McCounehey (sp?) ) is enjoyable to me, but I could see others not liking him. He can come off as pompous since he constantly preaches philosophy.

One thing thats been bugging me is why did Cohle seem so uneasy around leadoux when they had him cuffed, he seemed very disturbed

So, you guys think Mcconaughey will get the Oscar for best lead actor, or best supporting actor in a drama? I'm thinking lead...it's all but locked up.

My theory is the opposite of what you are implying (that Cohle was involved in this):

In answer: I believe Hart was the uneasy one. Cohle asked Ledoux what the purpose of the antlers. One thing I've become clear on: Cohle doesn't ask questions or say things without an ulterior motive. He asked Ledoux because he knew that he was not involved in the murders. He already knew what the antlers were for, as he had corrected the officers in the 1st episode that it was in fact a crown. Right before this scene Hart had just convinced his "boss" that Cohle would stay "cool" and not get to the bottom of things as he didn't have any friends in town.

General theory is that Cohle is investigating Hart as the responsible individual for the murders. I am convinced that Hart is either the Yellow King or he is protecting the Yellow King out of fear (his step-father?). If you go back in the series and rewatch the episodes it becomes pretty clear. Cohle is not an atheist and even has a cross in his apartment. Cohle is using his atheistic rants to get responses out of Hart. I believe the murders were committed as some sort of cover-up for this underground prostitution ring that is being protected by this Anti-Christian group. The satanism was likely created as a weird ritual among these rich elites and fed to members of that tent-church. Hart pulls Cohle away from the school right when Cohle surely would have gone inside. This is why Cohle goes back to the school in 2002, potentially after he realizes that Hart had been sabotaging him. He repeats the Nietzsche bull**** to the modern detectives to see how much they really know about the cult's activities. He is deliberately drawing the attention of the police in 2012 to either (a) get information from them or (b) to try and turn their attention to Hart if they are not corrupt. What is in the storage locker? I am guessing a lot of incriminating evidence against Hart, which will probably be seized. I predict Cohle takes Hart out while sacrificing himself.

Slightly less believable theory: Cohle's daughter was killed in some related criminal activity which is why he has stayed with the investigation so long. I don't believe that his daughter was killed in a car accident. This would explain why he is so determined to solve the case and his collection of books in the first episode.

"You are like the Michael Jordan of being a son of a b****."

Caught up after getting back from New Orleans. Love this show so far... a shame it only has three episodes left but I've been sucked in by it.

It will be interesting to see if the quality of the show/storyline/acting/etc. continues on into the following seasons.

Why are you convinced Hart could not be involved?

I am not convinced it's him, just throwing out the possibility.

He was my chief suspect after episode 2 or 3. I am just not convinced that it is him anymore, I could be wrong though.

I agree about the Uncle being part of it but don't think Hart has any idea. I think Cohle knows the connection which is why they had the falling out and why Cohle has gone off the grid to continue investigating.

Really interesting the angle you brought up on Cohle's daughter being killed in some way related to these crimes.

I don't agree that the cult is anti-Christian or Satanist but a group of people with there own interpretation of Christianity.
