Coach Don likes to intentionally fouldplayers with worst FT% like Chuck and Duncan or Shaq. I think partly RA expectd that at some point DN will use that tactic. One thing, Hayes is not quick enough to match their big guys and he can't run fast. He's only effective against teams that use a lot of post up play. my 2 cents.
I propose signing Hayes to 8 mils a year, after all, if we had Scola instead of Yao, and therefore could afford putting Hayes on Boozer, we would've won the series against Utah! I'm just glad that Morey isn't one of the idiots roaming here. Newbies always make me laugh with tears. Mwahahahahahahahahahaha.
luv the chukwagon, but he's seriously got to work on a mid range jumper and finishing around the basket this summer. right now his biggest asset, hustle and hard work, are attributes that Scola and Landry both have. Unfortunately for him Scola has a MUCH better offensive skillset and Landry is probably our best finisher right now outside of TMac.
His freethrow itself is awkward. Forget about a mid-range jumper. He needs to work on his post up play instead. He's been missing lately.
Hayes is shooting 27% of FTs, he really really needs to work on that. Without good hands, may I suggest the Rick Barry style of free throw shooting?!
Chuck Hayes is not a great post defender! Please...... He is a one sided player and because of his height, he will never be effective! He has no business playing or even starting on a nba team. The Rockets are notorious for allowing scrubs to play and good players get away!
I think Chuck was feeling the pressure of Luis and Landry playing so well, he has been pressing and it is causing him to miss shots he usually makes. Chuck plays hard, but his mental toughness has to come into question, I mean 27% from the FT line...yuck. DD
uhhh...Morey said himself that Hayes is a top 5 post defender in this league. If you were a real fan and watched the games, then you would've noticed that. He held Carlos Boozer to just 14 points on 4-14 shooting the other night.
This is true.. to a point. Chuck played him minute for minute up until he got his 4th foul in the middle of the 3rd quarter. Much like Shane played Manu minute for minute against San Antonio. Scola did pretty well on him from that point on.
I think we'll still see plenty of Chuck when the other team has a dominant 4, because Chuck's defense is just that good. However, I do like that our other bigs stretch the defense as well as they do, and on many nights Landry and Scola should get the bulk of the minutes. There's definitely a role for Chuck, but I'm fine with Scola starting, now that Scola has better adjusted to NBA defense and the officiating. Who knows, but at the rate Landry is progressing, he might be our starting 4 next year. This does show that Adelman is very willing to make adjustments with the roster on an as needed basis. That's a refreshing change.
Landry can't play D and all scola does is flop on D. Chuck hayes is good for 1 on 1 D against top PFs.
Makes sense for an endless number of reasons: -for whatever reason, Chuck's managed to regress badly in his offense. It was never great, but he could at least get us putbacks and weakside layups last season. Now he's just a complete mess, and I'd have to think it's a mental issue at this point. Either way, he's actually a negative on offense (worse than 4 on 5) because every lay in that he somehow bricks is a virtual turnover. -With McGrady out and facing GSW, it's imperative to get more scoring in the lineup. Van Gundy sat Hayes for Howard when we missed Yao for the same reason. -Scola and Landry are simply coming on strong, and were both rock solid last night. Adelman is showing that he will play guys that deserve it and not feed someone minutes out of stubborn loyalty. Neither is as strong as Hayes defensively, but both are so much better offensively that Hayes comes out the #3 overall forward. And Landry is rebounding just as well as Hayes ever has. -We never really needed to clamp down defensively on GS after torching them in the first. And unless Hayes was going to shut down their perimeter guys, he wasn't going to make much of an impact anyway. Harrington wasn't a threat at all. I like Chuck, I admire his hustle and attitude. But he's got to work through his mental block with the scoring if he wants court time. I know what he's capable of, but it was the same story with V-Span last year - burden is on the player to make good during the games. Evan
Mr. So called Fan................. how many points did he score??? Was he in the game in fourth? Hell no! Why not? Because he can't score! 2pts How many rebounds did he have?? 6 rebounds! He held Boozer to a Double Double and thats good? 13 pts and 10 reb!!! The highest scorer on the team were kirilinko and korver with 17 a piece. Who won the dang game????? Think before you speak rookie!
Can we please wake up!!!!!! Chuck Hayes???? Chuck Friggin Hayes????? We are discussing Chuck Wicky Wack Hayes??? A name that can be soon forgotten in a few hours if he was released!!! 10 yrs from now you think when we think of great Rocket Forwards(and there have'nt been many) we're gonna say Charles Barkley, Otis Thorpe, Robert Horry, Chuck Hayes...... lol please give me break!!!!!!!!
Like another poster said, Hayes is money in situations where the other team has a monster PF, Duncan, Boozer, Jefferson, or Bosh. But against teams who like to run or play SF at PF, it's better to have Landry and Scola, because of the offense. Hayes is not completely useless, we need him for Utah and S.A. Plus, it is not like we can't start them together.....the only players on the team who should be consistent starters are Yao and T-Mac. Everyone else can shifted around, for instance Battier doesn't always have to start, especially if SF/SG is not a big threat and we need to go somewhat bigger, like against the Lakers with their typical lineup of Bynum, Turiaf, and Odom and if Kobe is off the floor. Even in against Utah, Battier doesn't really have any big assignments to slow down and irritate. Could someone like Hayes or Scola play SF in order to win the rebounding battle?
