Looking at some of their defensive numbers there doesn't seem to be a significant difference with or without him. Watching them they didn't seem to be nearly as strong in the paint without him but it really didn't affect their numbers.
oh plz brotha dont get me stated on Kwame brown and as for chis webber its pretty ovious he wasent in the nba because of his knowledge of the game even tho he was a great passer
He did so AFTER Bynum had already said he didn't need the max from the Lakers. He was trying to limit the damage. Everybody knows there is zero chance Bynum will get a max contract this summer. To get one, he'll have to continue his progression and be consistent & healthy all next season.
The only reason he won't get the max is because he is still a restricted free afent after this season, so LA essentially has him locked in for two more years. If he were on the open market he would get the max. If he takes a risk and signs a one year tender after this season, then someone will max him in 2010 when he is a free agent.
He is overrated by Lakers fans and underrated by Rockets fans here. Bynum has the potential to be as good as Dwight Howard. And he is bigger, and almost as athletic. The only thing that is preventing him to be Howard good at this point is his aggressiveness, kind of like Yao in his first couple of years. Some people question his desire, which is a legitimate concern. If he has the desire and sour up his aggressiveness, I won't be surprised he can be one of the best centers (maybe even the best) in the league.
Both... Bynum will be a good center, but he lacks something that Dwight has. Again, Dwight has a gamebreaker quality to him, Bynum seems to be more of Robert Parish type player. Good complimentary all-star center, but not the best in league. Howard had Bynum's career numbers in his 1st season. I think Howard has chance to be a lesser skilled (but much more aggressive) version of David Robinson. I don't think he is as great as advertised by the media and LA fans, I will even say that I don't think he is top 5 right now. Kaman, Bogut, Jefferson, Dwight, Yao, Okur, and even Amare (c-pf). He's will be a good center, but I think being LA will make seem better than what he really is.
If you think about it he can actually be both Dwight Howard is overrated and also the next big thing.
what LA media and Lakers fan have opined is that with a heavy Bynum, the Lakers would have not lost a 27-point lead against the Celtics. Bynum's length and more physically body would pose more problems for Celtics front line.
Bynum is actually a really likable guy. Other than being a good player. He seems very down to earth from what I have seen from him during last season's many interviews. He seems to have a great demeanor for his age. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/yY7xAF4XKS4&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/yY7xAF4XKS4&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
They make him out to be the next top-notch center. I agree with them. He isn't there yet but his progression has been steady and his stats the last couple of months before he got hurt can't be denied. The guy has a chance to be a great player. If not great, then just a top 3-4 center who averages ~20/12.
the next Kareem.... someone on this site said it best, and I paraphrase: it's not the Lakers I don't like, it's their fans I'm starting to hate...
He is a power center.... The key is he is very young and comprehensive. I like him!!! Of course, he also needs a lot of training and experience. It is the most importent!
