It comes out today. I see a MCL/ACL tear.

Remember how Michael Redd was so confident he was ok and when the results it was a season ending injury. I'll be shocked if Bynum is back from this one.

Suspend Kobe! That's a flagrant 5 foul on Kobe. At least 5 playoffs game suspensions. New rule! :D

He better hope those results show he tore every ligament in his knee, lest he be known as the biggest overreactor in history. :)

i hope he is all right but it doesnt look good. while this opens up the west a bit more (the lakers still will be the #1 seed imo) it always sucks to see a big man go down and i honestly do not want to hear the media/laker fans claiming that whoever wins the title this year (assuming it is not the lakers) that it is somehow illegitimate because the lakers did not have bynum.

what i dont get is why the mri results are taking so long. shouldn't they have had results yesterday? it was done in new york so its not like they went to some place that didnt have state of the art equipment. la times says there was some tech issues with compatibility of computers? that seems sort of bs to me especially in this day and age.

the only plausible explanation imo is that the lakers are trying to PR this thing the best they can because it is bad. if it is a 6-8 week thing (which seems to be a best case scenario) i would imagine they would have announced it right away.

The results are taking so long because they were supposed to be in yesterday, but the Dr. decided to watch the super bowl instead and make Bynum wait. I heard Bynum was one of the biggest jerks in the Nba so it doesnt suprise me it happens to guys like this. I for one hope he is ok because you never want to see something like a knee ruin a guys career. But at the same time this guy has already made millions of dollars so it is kind of hard to feel sorry for him when you have other people in the world working much harder for less money.

Lakers waiting to learn severity of Bynum's injury

NEW YORK (AP) -The Los Angeles Lakers won't know the severity of Andrew Bynum's right knee injury until Monday.

Bynum underwent an MRI on Sunday, but spokesman John Black said the team wouldn't have the results until the next day.

Bynum was hurt in the first quarter of Saturday night's win at Memphis. Kobe Bryant drove to the basket, missed the shot and crashed into Bynum's right leg. Bynum immediately grabbed his knee.

"Everybody's just upset for him and disappointed for him," Bryant said before practice Sunday as the Lakers prepared to play at the Knicks on Monday night. "But hopefully everything will be OK. We're all optimistic about it."

The 7-0, 285-pound Bynum's injury brought back bad memories of last season for the Lakers. He went down in mid-January and was expected to be sidelined 8 to 12 weeks after bruising a bone in his knee and briefly dislocating his kneecap.

Instead, he missed the final 46 games of the season, as the Lakers lost in the NBA finals. He underwent arthroscopic surgery May 21 to remove some cartilage debris and smooth some rough spots on the underside of his kneecap.

Bynum is the Lakers' third-leading scorer and second-leading rebounder this season, averaging 14.0 points, 8.2 rebounds and 1.9 blocks.

But the injury came as the 21-year-old seemed to be taking a major step forward in his fourth NBA season. In the five games before he was hurt, he was averaging 26.2 points, 13.8 rebounds and 3.2 blocks and shooting 65.3 percent from the field.

6 weeks if the MRI is cool and no tears. If he has a slight tear he will be done for the year.

Torn MCL....Tough break...Even when he does come back, he wont be the same guy. Itll be from rehab straight in to playoff basketball. That's tough.

That means it could be up to three months, it could be a good news for the rockets, but you never know what the rockets can or can not do.

Funny how last year the prognosis was 8-12 weeks also. I call BS on that. Sounds like a PR stunt to me. I say he's done for the year again with this latest injury.

Healing for normal people != Athletes.

After his MCL heals in 8-12, he won't regain athleticism, won't have confidence.

Bynum is out for the season.

Tough break. He's done for the season. There's no way he comes back in time and shape. His career is to valuable to risk coming back to soon.

Tough break on a freak accident. Not fond of the kid but his game was really shaping up and improving. Never want to see anyone get hurt regardless of what team they play for.

8 weeks = beginning of April.
    12 weeks = 2nd round of playoffs.

And it's usual for any player to need about a week for every month out before being himself again on the court.

I'd say this is a bigger blow to them than it was last year: Odom has really taken a nosedive this year (14 and 10 --> 9 and 6), and Bynum turned into a ridiculous threat the past 3 and a half weeks. Out of him, Gasol, and Odom, he was the only guy you could count on for serious physical play in the post. And that's what got them bounced by the Celtics last year.
