U kidding right. A scrub like Emaka Okafor turned down a contract extension for 12 millions per the season before. And you think Bynum will only get 7-8 millions per. Jeeze! U r way out of line. Even Sam Dalembert got 10 millions per.

What has Bynum done to deserve a max contract? He only played 35 games this past season. Sure he put up good numbers but nothing worthy of a max contract.

Bynum doesnt need to do anything. Bynum is a 7 footer that can jump.

How much did Nene get paid and what did Nene do?

7 footer of any good is 10+ millions per for extension. You dont know that? Jeeze! U must be new to NBA.

Any news that shows potential disruption in the Laker clubhouse (disgruntled players playing for contracts and not their team) is a good thing. And yes this could be a disruption.

If David Lee is demanding for the MAX, sure as hell Bynum deserves it. :D :D :D

You can't blame him for trying, if he wasn't coming off a season ending injury some GM out there would have paid close to that for sure.

bynum will demand at least 10 million a season heck people will say he hasnt done much but there have been guys who've done far less than him paid a whole lot more money (eric dampier anyone?) bynum asking for a max deal doesnt surprise me at all especially if he is on the track to becoming a 20/10/2 guy which could be the case he is only 20 years old remember

LOL - he's not even worth half max money. 3 years for $22M is more in line with what he's really worth.

But agreed, let the Lakers sign him to 5 years and $80M and get laughed at for half a decade.

Yeah, I always love it when the Lakers are in trouble.

That said, it's not Bynum, folks. It's his agent talking tough. Bynum is a kid. He doesn't know nothing about contract negotiation. Anyways, I will be surprised if the Lakers would sign a max contract with him without seeing him play after injury. If the Lakers are that dumb, then good for them. :D

I can easily see him maxing out, though probably not this summer because of the injury. He's got some time to get that extension though. I bet he gets at least $12M per.

Anyone laughing at Bynum obviously didn't see him transform his game on a nightly basis this season. The beauty of it is that since he started off so raw the Lakers and Kareem were able to mold him into a budding 7 foot superstar with a garbage man mentality. Phil Jackson purposely didn't run any plays through him until basically this past season and forced him to learn how to make an impact on the game strictly through defense and rebounding. The main reason for that is because they didn't want to have another Shaq situation where your big man only puts effort on the defensive end if he gets a certain amount of touches on offense.

Part of Bynum's potential is that he has a great mind for the game. The kid is a sponge. Phil told him to study tape of Tyson Chandler to improve his rebounding. He listened to Phil and ever since he's been a tenacious rebounder. Before a game against the Pacers this season, Kobe gave him some tips on how to guard Jermaine O'Neal. The results:

    fgm-a ftm-a +/- reb bs pts
    A.Bynum 6-6 5-6 +26 10 4 17
    J.O'Neal 4-13 6-9 -24 3 0 14

    First Game

    A.Bynum 8-11 7-9 +30 13 4 23
    J.O'Neal 6-14 1-2 -25 4 2 13

    Second Game

Talent and skill wise, he's deserving of the max. Just has to prove he can stay healthy.
