I think Bass is more of a jump shooter, while Landry mostly finishes at the rim. And Bass is a better defender in the low post. That was why the mavs were willing to let go Drop.

Landry is a more efficient rebounder than Milsap, Maxiell, Craig Smith, Bass, but he is probably the worst blocker among them.

While I love Landry, let's see how he does now the secret is out. He has yet shown us he has more post moves than dunks. All the guys I mentioned seem to have decent post moves.

By Zach Langdon , Purdue Exponent

    Sports Editor

After being drafted by Seattle with the No. 31 pick of the NBA draft and subsequently traded to Houston, Carl Landry became the first Purdue men’s basketball player drafted since Brian Cardinal in 2000.

Landry is more than just the rare Boilermaker draftee, however. He’s a rarity as an NBA player.

He wasn’t the star of his high school team. In fact, Landry admittedly was “not very good” at the time. The coach at Vincennes University, where Landry went to junior college, didn’t even intend to recruit Landry when he first saw him play.

But Landry blossomed at Vincennes. His sophomore season he averaged 18.4 points and 8.9 rebounds a game and was named a junior college All-American.

Following that season, Landry came to Purdue, where he led the team in scoring and was named second-team All-Big Ten.

However, he tore his anterior cruciate ligament late in the season and missed the last three games.

Landry played in the first five games of the 2005-06 season, but then decided his knee was not fully recovered and elected to use a medical redshirt for the season. He came back better than ever last season, being named first-team All-Big Ten and leading the team in scoring and rebounding.

He said while rehabbing after his injury he worried that his career may be over.

“At times I was like, ‘Man, am I ever going to get my explosiveness back? Am I ever going to get better? Am I ever going to be the same player that I was?’ Now, I’m that, if not better,” he said.

Even after coming back last season, many NBA draft projection Web sites doubted him, calling him undersized at 6-foot-7. At the Orlando pre-draft combine, Landry outshined many of the draft’s top prospects and was named the fifth-best athlete at the combine. He also measured in at 6-foot-9, silencing some, but not all, of the “too short” critics.

Landry said when he looks at all he’s overcome in the last five years, he’s amazed.

“I’m real emotional, just thinking about what I’ve went through in the last five, six years, just to get to this point.

Nobody knew me, nobody had me being here,” he said.

Now, he will play basketball at the highest level.

I wish he is 6'9, because that'd make him a poor man's Amare . But he is not. He is clearly about 2 inches shorter than Scola.

paul milsap looks bigger and stronger. but no way does he have all the skills and fire that landry has. landry might be as strong.

Landry reminded me of young Jermaine O'Neal.

i think if you gave him another season he'll play even better. he's just dunking the ball right now and rebounding at a very efficient rate. so happy we got rid of stromile and gay cause if we didn't we wouldn't have room for landry.

Landry needs to develop his post game.
With a good post game, he will be an all-star in 3-4 years.
I am sure that he can do it.

I thought the last word in the title had an letter "r" between the letters "B" and "e."

Was confused for a second as to why.

If last year's draft is any indication, Morey will draft the best player available, not based on need. We didn't need another short guard, and we didn't need another undersized power forward, but that's what we got. Everyone wanted to kill Morey, but hindsight shows he made the right choice.

Oh jebus, enough with this cautious optimism crap. Landry is a beast, and I have no idea how we landed him in the second round, heh.

Landry is at least as tall as Battier and McGrady. If he is 6'7" then so are they if not slightly shorter. At this point, arguing over an inch is pointless. He can play the PF at this level and is playing it quite well. The End.

We need a hybrid sg/sf or pf/c. A SG/SF scorer with handles that can get in the lane and get his shot off with a jumper or drive. A Kmart type to play the 4 spot/center. Denver is going to blow up the team after not making the playoffs. Too many iso players on denver who shoot 1st, 2nd, and 3rd before thinking to pass. The should call them the Denver "I got to get mine" Nuggets.

Landry is still green which is what's so amazing about him. He's still learning the game, the other teams players. What he can and cannot get away with. He still hasn't bothered to put the ball on floor yet. I don't think I have seen him dribble one time. Man, when he gets it and starts to put the ball on the floor and posting up he's going to be amazing. Let alone when Adleman starts to call his number, run some screens for him and gives him the green light to shoot.

Another thing. I have never seen Landry running the pick and roll because he's not the first option. He's a cleanup guy and is in there for putback dunks and some defense.

Think about all the things, he hasn't done yet and you start to think. OMG!!

I get the comparisons with Amare and Carlos (which I agree with), but some of the comparisons are just too ridiculous and makes no sense.

    Jermaine O'Neal is 6'11 people!!

    Landry is 6'8!!

But I'm not complaining lol. He's a like 6'10 250 lb beast stuffed within that 6'8 frame !

And he's definitely not the next Carmelo!

Then you meant to say that Landry was the greatest finisher in the history of the universe. Get it right next time.

Exactly, Landry has not shown everything he can do on the offensive side of the ball ie.(post up and take his man off the dribble). People will be amazed. It's looking like he'll be the steal of the 2007 draft. Loved it when they drafted him and still love it now.
