Yea I totally felt vindicated when they said that. And the ESPN commentator lady (who I thought did an amazing job btw), mentioned how athletic Landry was.
i love landry....but im really worried about if he is going to resign with us or not....looking at the way he is playing and getting attention from the opponent in practices you can see he is becoming a popular player and thats what worries me...there will be plenty of teams lining up to sign him....i just pray he will stay loyal to the rockets!!!
I figured out a good comparison for Carl after tonight's game: Kenyon Martin pre-injury. Carl doesn't have the defensive abilities of the pre-injury Kmart, but the athleticism and body type is similar. Carl has a better jumper. That's my ceiling for Carl, Kmart with better offense...
Landry is wayyyyy better than Milsap. They were comparing him to Craig Smith when the season started but he's surpassed Smith by a long shot now. All Landry needs are more minutes and some plays run for him. He can be a very potent offensive threat.
Maybe.......or he could be completely worn out. Remember he is still a rookie....and hasn't hit the perverbial "Rookie Wall" yet. Carl Landry reminds me of Dennis Rodman when Detroit had him as a rookie when they won their first championship.
So far all you've seen is his athleticism and dunking ability. A little bit of the midrange shot but you haven't seen what he can do with the ball if given a chance. Landry doesn't handle the ball period in our offense. Check out the 45 second mark of this vid. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fQRGxLqadwo
Landry is playing well, but he's going to have to develop some more post moves in order to truly flourish as an NBA player. He's got a good midrange shot, and looks like he can put the ball on the floor every now and then, but for the most part his points are a product of the system and T'mac's passing. He seems like a hard-worker so I'm sure he will continue to develop that aspect of his game.
What I like about Landry is, he is smart enough to pass the ball if he is in trouble, pretty impressive for a rookie.
I'm just guessing, but the way he's worked this year, particularly when he wasn't playing, leads me to thinks he'll work hard this summer and come back next year with an improved all around game.
I personally would just like to thank Carl Landry for understanding something that Yao Ming and some others have taken many years to learn, and in some cases have still not learned -- namely, that the surest way to maximize the probability of the ball going through the hoop is to maintain contact with the ball as it does so. In fact, the greater the number of hands with which you maintain this contact, the greater the certainty of scoring. Thank you.
Landry hit a nice turnaround in the lane. I think he's capable of becoming a nice post-up player, with his combination of strength, athleticism, and touch.
Landy cannot decide to sign with someone else even if he wanted to. He is a RESTRICTED free agent. There are also certain rules that keep teams from offering some ludicrous amount that the Rockets would have to match. The only way he could walk, would be if the Rockets didn't value him...little chance of that happening. There was a very good explanatory thread the other day about all of this. You must have missed it. Either way, be at ease; he isn't going anywhere.
