SF3>>> Rafer if money is not involved. But the buyout is not confirmed.

I highly doubt that. Steve Francis would have no problems deffering to Yao or T-Mac. I saw him play this year with the Knicks. He was moving the ball around, setting screens and basically setting up his teammates. He wasn't dribbling the ball, forcing the issue or trying to get his own shot. Steve was playing as a role player on that current Knicks team.

I wouldn't say start him at first, but I have no doubts he can eventually beat out Rafer to start. JVG did say are biggest problem was guard play, Steve can hit open shots and finish the drive with the best of them.

I agree. If he was willing to take a backseat for a team like NY, then hopefully he would take one for a better team. What he might not be willing to do is play of the minimum that everyone is talking about. I think he believes he is more valuable than that.

That being said, it doesn't appear like the buyout is definite for him. Even if one does happen, I doubt the Rockets will bring SF back.

:D Stevie would be great, I think he was one of the leaders in free throw attempts before he got hurt. Maybe we can talk MAC into taking out an newspaper ad, asking the Rockets to sign SF....lol let SF see it while he down here working out. :D

    *MAKE THAT HILTON*

Im not sure if MAC still associates with the Rockets

    Per DaDakota:

"But Rafer isn't doing that.....is he? He is bringing the ball up and handing off to Tmac and then going to spot up as a shooter.

The point is that the Rockets DO NOT NEED A TRUE PG...they need a SG who can dribble and finish.

They need a Kenny Smith type of player......

And Steve Francis > all our PGs."

    DD

    *****************************************

After thinking about this a few hours- Steve would be an unbelievable bargain at the vet minimum or at least under 3 mil per season. He has ties to Houston(a home here I recall) and would redeem himself to many pillars in the NBA by being successful here. I do not know Steve's feelings on this, but he never appeared to hold a grudge. He played hard for Van Gundy - good defense, fewer shots-the last season he was team 1st player.

This could work- off the bench he could be dynamite.

This is a very appealing idea- speed and athleticsm off the bench...

    Even Starting?

    Sorry - to add:

Steve does indeed have ability to finish. We have needed that from Rafer.

    I'm on the bandwagon

I'd love to get Francis back on this team. And for those of you saying he won't be a good fit, that's bull.

Francis deliberately altered his natural game to fit into JVG's crappy system. Even JVG admitted Francis did a good job of making himself fit in.

To Steve's credit - he probably worked as hard as anybody to adapt his playing style to help the team. He was doing well under this system...

As long as he isn't sitting on the jetties with Thunder Thighs on his lap, I'm all for Francis coming back.

Reports from both sides on RealGM, if they can be believed, say that neither Steve nor the Knicks have discussed a buyout.

    Webber's is a done deal.

That excerpt actually comes from an even less reliable source, the New York Post.

Well, rumors are already flying that Dallas is going after Webber. There's another 6 fouls to use on Yao plus he still has offensive skills.

IMO, we'd better go after him, if for nothing else, but preventing Dallas from adding him.

We don't need either of these guys. They would be useless on this squad.

I would be ecstatic if the Rox brought back the Franchise.
I think knowing Mac and Yao are on the team, Stevie would have no problems deferring and is more than willing to be a 3rd option if that meant: a) he'd win a title; b) could be back in his hometown and c) regain his reputation.

Remember, he was an All Star starter when he was a Rocket. He was also one of Yao's biggest fans and best friends. With Yao now being the Man, Stevie would definitely take the back seat. Remember, the reason he got criticized his last couple years here was because he had to be the Man. There were no other options. Yao was still developing those first couple seasons.

On top of all that SF3 could bring to Houston as a teammate, I think the move would be a brilliant PR move for Stevie's image and the Houston organization. Despite what some people have said about him, he was beloved when he was here. And he's made no bones about loving the city.

And think about it, if Steve Francis came back to Houston for the minimum, that means the Rockets didn't lose anything for Tracy McGrady. That'd deserve a "wow!" on principle alone.

i'd love to see stevie back on the team at a reasonable price, especially in a 6th man type of role. he'd be an awesome spark off the bench, and no one can deny the effort he lays out on the court.

he worked hard to adjust his game to van gundy's system, so he already knows what is expected to see court time. with francis, i dont see another bench in the league better than ours, with francis, snyder, the official spokesman for the house of pies, hayes/howard, and the cookie monster.

plus...he loves houston. let's bring him home......well, for good. not just for "rehab" ;)

I want Steve back. Make it happen!

Seriously, as a natural 2 in the body of a 1, SF3 is not a max player. But if the price is right, his heart and passion for the game and team, should be valued way more than Rafer. Besides, I believe he has changed, a lot. He would defer to TMac and Yao, and he's way more talented than Rafer.
