Dang...should have made one reply...too late now.

You can get a decent 32" at Sam's for about $299.

I think it was a Phillips. Not the best TV by any means, but I have had one for 10 years now without any problems.

That is what my brother in law has. I don't think it is 65 though.

I think it is 50 something.

What is whack is that they don't have cable nor sat, so basically, they are watching antenna tv on an hdtv screen.

    Weak.

You can get HD signals over the antenna with a converter.

Is FOX the only free broadcast channel to provide HD programming?

    No.

Depending on where you live...all networks provide HD broadcasts over the airwaves...including some "networks" such as WB in a few select locations.

In Houston, all four major networks are in HD over the air.

Most of the major networks (in houston) broadcast digitally... with some of their shows being broadcasted in High-Def.

Check out TitanTV.com for all the latest HD shows being broadcasted in your area.

I have a Hitachi projection HDTV. Many are shocked at how bright the picture is, and how it doesn't fail when looking at it from an angle. It kicked the pants off the Sonys when I bought it almost 3 years ago.

Yes, the correct model of Hitachi is a good TV.

I forget which model numbers are good, but some are and some aren't.

I juggled between a 57" Toshiba and a 57" Hitachi for a long time. Went with the Toshiba, but would have been happy with the Hitachi as well.

Sony isn't known for good big screen TV's. Their tube TV's are top notch, but their CRT's aren't that good.

If you want the best possible viewing angle, get a LCD, PLASMA or a Tube.

    Hey Houstonrocketss.

Well, it seem like you won't like the rear projection tv since you have to be at the proper angle to get the best picture.

What I would think is best for you is that is to go with the widescreen Toshiba 36HF72 or Toshiba 34HF81. They are very good price for the quality. Toshiba is a very well known brand been around awhile in making hdtv so they are very reliable. What's good about them is that you don't really have to worry about burn mark on your tv since rear projection will give you that down the road. Rear projection tv are cheap and the quality isn't so bad if you calibrated properly but they aren't as good as the flat hard shell tv. Sony are good but their prices are too expensive! Trust me, if you want great pictures and sound, quality for the buck, go with Toshiba! Man tv shows and movies will never look the same again! The widescreen is damn cool too.

Check out this site for the reviews on alot of hdtv: http://www.audioreview.com/HDTV-Digital,TVs/PLS_2727_913crx.aspx

Thanks Nbastar, those two models you mentioned look very nice but i just wish they made a nice tube tv that was flat but only bigger than 36 or so....how come they do not make them like 50 and above?

The main reason I would believe is that with that size and model, if it get any bigger, it would be too heavy and big to fit most doors. When i said heavy, man I mean it's heavy and a pain in the ass to move around. Another reason is that the tv and material is pretty fragile and teh more weights are added, the more pressure it will put on the materials that can cause it easily to crack when not carefully move around. I mean mine weights around 200pounds and its heavy. The biggest flat shell tube so far is the one from Sony which is 40inch. I guessed sooner or later the plasma is the way to go and hopefully the price will drop and the quality and technology will become much better.

But if you want size try going for the Toshiba rear projection. IF you live in a small apartment, I wouldn;t recommend one since the quality is so great close up. Get a big one if you're living in a house with room so that you can arranged it so you will get a clear vision. I mean a rear projection are very good. It will grow on you. It's cheap and does a wonderful job for it size. Dont judged them at the store that you go to because most stores don't calibrate their tv properly.

Ask yourself what you really want and do a little research and see what's best for you.

I'm very happy with my 34inch widescreen but if you want 50 to 60inch and watching thing coming right at you go for the rear projection adn trust me, you won't regret it. The rear projection are pretty good if view at the proper distance.

    Good luck!

Oh yeah, don't forget that the direct view you have to buy the stands separately and tehy are sometime pretty expensive. You don't have to buy the stand but just get any cheap stand that would fit your tv but it's jsut that it looks nice to have a stand that is made for the models. I mean for example the 40" FD Trinitron® WEGA® XBR® Hi-Scan® TV
KV-40XBR800 is already around $2500US and the stand separately cost like $500!
