lets be real guys. none of these deals gets us over the top immediately. with the iggy deal, you are pretty much going to lose all flexibility at the end of next year. i think this is a major factor to consider. it seems to me that if we get butler, then we are just setting ourselves to go through all of this speculation again next year. at then end of the day, neither of these deals will deserve a "splash" comment. but id rather take the one that allows us to swing for the fences next year.
[/CODE] Here is his career stats. You think those numbers are kind of low? What are you expecting Michael Jordan? Plus, Iggy is a much better defender than Butler. Much bigger window to try and win a championship even after Yao is gone. Plus after next season Dalembert's contract expires and you can renegotiate to a much more reasonable contract, trade him or let him walk for the cap relief. This deal in no way is a long term salary cap killer.
Yea, a deal with the wizards would give us short-term contracts and an open future. Why should we bind ourselves to 2nd class "stars"(iggy&dalembert) instead of signing free agents in the next years? That´s the only way to get a championship.
1st off, I suppose you never followed either player in college. I bet you started following basketball in....the year Iggy was in the dunk contest, am I right? Wisdom is gained not granted. Oh and by the way, if you scroll down on the bottom of todays Chron blog, you will find this: There was some more trade buzz over the weekend. You know the drill. Say it with me. Nothing has changed. The talks are exactly what they have been all month. The Rockets have focused on four teams — Washington, Philadelphia, Chicago and New York — with the Rockets willing to take back a long, heavy contract, but not two, and other teams trying to get one of the Rockets' young assets. (ESPN mentioned Luis Scola, but Washington and others are actually targeting Aaron Brooks, Carl Landry or Chase Budinger. Scola is a free agent this summer.) This has been roughly the state of talks for nearly a month, with the sides determined to wait for the other to move off its demands closer to the trade deadline, and the Rockets' hoping that teams will be more compelled to make a deal than the Rockets are because they have something to gain long-term by doing nothing at all. I can, however, share something from a friend who is a long-time scout and front office guy. I had come over thinking Andre Iguodala would be a better get than Caron Butler. He strongly disagreed, arguing that neither is a guy that carries a team, but Iguodala has the contract of one. Butler has one more year left on his deal. He said Butler "isn't a good guy, he's a great guy." Most of all, he said Butler is a better fit, giving the Rockets shooting they desperately need and that would work well next season with Yao Ming. On the other hand, it's tough to know how much to make of Butler's struggles this season and if he can shake off the years of being a Wiz. A change of scenery helps some guys. Others get stuck in that sort of mode when playing too long for a mess of a team such as the Wizards. It is a condition known as Clipperitis. My bet is that Butler is so competitive, such a tough-minded player, he would thrive if he can join a winner, particularly when Yao starts getting everyone open shots again next season. Either way, it still seems like a long way to go to get to Feb. 18. http://blogs.chron.com/nba/2010/02/suns_115_rockets_111_missed_sh.html
Don't give me this condescending bull**** for prefering iguodala. I've been into basketball for some time. I even remember our champ. runs which were fixtures of my childhood. I'm familiar with the players and would prefer Iguodala.
Butler is a very good role player, very good production (although declining) and attitude. Plus he has a very good contract. But his age, position fit and especially injury history are huge concerns. Iguodala has a burdensome contract, but is younger and has upside. Iguodala is also a natural SG, a real need on this team. Not to mention he is an ironman who also has a great attitude, work ethic AND plays outstanding defense. Dollars notwithstanding, Iguodala is a better fit for this team.
iggy/dalembert let me susplain it to you lucy... iggy = young with tremendous upside > caron = good but much older dalembert = expiring contract next season, 11 mil expiring contract that is a big trade chip if we want to move him next season both have great athleticism and we are a deep team again WANT
Bingo, you win. The rockets will have much more wiggle room in the offseason with Haywoods contract and also have his bird rights.
rockets trade mcgrady/budunger wizards trade butler/Haywood/filler Then...battier for Rudy Fernandez and sign von von Brooks/lowry fernandez/wafer/taylor butler/ariza scola/landry Haywood/Hayes/Ming Wooooooooooo!!!!
assuming you send out the same package and have a choice of either butler/haywood or iggy/sammy, the choice is clearly butler/haywood contractually. more flexibility is always better than less flexibility, especially with the NBA and the Player's association about to renegotiate the terms of the CBA. Having long term money committed beyond the current CBA could be an absolute killer if old deals are grandfathered into the CBA with no exemptions. on the basis of talent, i give the edge to Iggy/Sammy, but not by much. Not nearly enough to offset Iggy's contract and the loss of financial flexibility that comes along with it. that being said, i seriously doubt we have the same package going out in both of those deals. the wiz might be desperate but they arent stupid.
My guess is Philly and Washington has the players we covet the more. Chi and NY has the most interest in the expiring contract to be players in the free agent market. The way the Feigen lists those teams, I would say it is actually in order of our agenda. 1. Washington (player+expiring) 2. Philly (player+bad contract) 3. Chi (lower tier player +filler) 4. NY (last resort, plan Z)
