If you'd read the article that I read, here, or a transcript of Bush's speech, - you'd realize that you're the one who's confused: http://www.nytimes.com/2006/02/09/p...&en=b246a17b899bfcdc&ei=5094&partner=homepage "Their plot was derailed in early 2002, when a Southeast Asian nation arrested a key Al Qaeda operative," - G.W. Bush from the CNN article: "Al Qaeda's Southeast Asia leader, known as Hambali, had recruited Jemaah Islamiyah operatives for the plot, Bush said. Hambali was arrested in 2003 in Thailand." So either there's two guys, one who was arrested somewhere else in 2002, and Hambali was rolled up later - or else the President simply is confused and gave the wrong date - not surprising given his historical ineptitude with the spoken word So there are either two stories - Indonesia or Malaysia or other arrests guy who leads them to Hambali & plot, which is uncovered later - or Bush misspeaks and Hambali is arrested, and plot is uncovered later. Further, even if you're right that Bush is wrong, I don't know what leads you to doubt that Thailand would 'act alone'. Thailand doesn't exactly piss around when it comes to arresting people. They have had a longstanding crackdown on muslim insurgents. Likewise, the Bush administration loves to take credit for things. Reading his exact words, I don't see much credit taken. In fact, I think the title of this thread is misleading - Bush didn't say the US alone, or even primarily thwarted anything at all. EDIT: CNN appears to be even more confused - here they contemporaneously have Hambali being arrested on February 24, 2004 http://edition.cnn.com/2003/WORLD/asiapcf/southeast/08/15/hambali.reax/index.html So if we turn back the timeline - how does a 2002 plot to hijack planes get rolled up in 2004? or 2003 for that matter? Answer: it doesn't, and the President didn't misspeak (for now), and further discussion/speculation on Thai motives isn't really relevant.
Nice timing. Desperate attempt by a desperate man to get the ratings back up. I need to visit that "Liberty" Tower in LA before the terrorists really blow it up!.....IF only I can find it! Anyone else see the irony in that goofup? Bush never fails to crack me up.
This has happened more than you know: One of my best friends was an officer in the Harris County Sheriff's dept. He told me that a terrorist attack was thwarted here in Houston. A large tanker truck filled with explosives was traveling to Houston and was intercepted on the highway before it got here.
I don't give a freaking **** when the information was released! The fact that multiple, serious attacks have been prevented thanks to Bush's initiatives is a key reason why I will always and fully support him.
Yup. Because Bush said so. It must be true. Surely he has never lied since he has taken oath. My bad! *LAUGH*
Trader_Jorge cracks diamonds between his pythons to warm up for his workout. Trader_Jorge often goes to the firing range and throws bullets at the targets. He prefers this because it takes to long for the bullet to hit the target when using a gun. People who survive a stroke did not actually suffer from a stroke. That was a warning from Trader_Jorge. In 2002, Trader_Jorge won the world poker tournament by having a five-of a kind and a flush at the same time. Trader_Jorge can eat a hybrid car and crap out a Hummer. The suicide bomber was invented when Trader_Jorge vowed to kill all terrorists. Trader_Jorge caused a school bus to implode when he got his first erection. There was only one survivor. Trader_Jorge's kidneys are so strong, they turn wine into grapes.
Are you kidding!? No, it's not just what Bush said - they are the facts in this case. Multiple articles on this topic are not just going off his word; there is evidence. And, so what if he's lied. One of the President's main jobs is to ensure the safety of this country; if it means telling some lies - in this case which they are not - THEN SPECTACULAR! If it will save innocent lives, then lie to us 24/7.
Is that supposed to be me or is he looking at me? Coz, I can assure you, I have more hair than that on my head. I like everything else though.
i dont think the goverment is going to spill all the beans about all the covert stuff that is going on. i'm happy that they aren't, the less we know about thwarted attacks, the more we can live a normal life. its not like GW Bush went 'yippy kay yay mf' on Nagaski Towers, but some good people in the miltary, CIA, NSA did some good work that we'd would never get a chance to thank them.
\ Don't forget the Thai/Indonesian/Malaysian governments who were apparently the prime movers in this whole affair. We owe them a heavy debt of thanks. [
This thread reminds me of: Bauer represents one of the people working to stop the terrorists. Palmer is the president who at times would go as far to lie or not reveal all the facts to the country to ensure his peoples' safety. Stanton was a guy in his administration who was working against him... kinda like the way all the liberals work against Bush because he lied, wah.
It's really sad that good, honest Americans are okay with their president manipulating them into believing a lie.
Care to elaborate? And like I said, if he's lying as much as you think he is, THEN FINE WITH ME, if it saves innocent American lives which the supposed lie does.
