if other countries were jumping off a cliff should we? actually I find it funny that you would go to the "other country" card when your usual arguments revolve about us doing what we want to do because we're the biggest and baddest on the block
Almighty God created the races white, black, yellow, malay and red, and he placed them on separate continents. And but for the interference with his arrangement there would be no cause for such marriages. The fact that he separated the races shows that he did not intend for the races to mix. One of the losing arguments in Loving vs. Virginia, which struck down a VA law that limited marriages according to race.
Some of you here mistakenly think that this is some kind of a referendum on gay people. You can still like gay people just fine without favoring their getting married.
True. However, there is one minor little detail you're leaving out: This isn't about "favoring" it one way or another, it's about legislating. Duh.
What a crock. You can still like gay people and want to deny them the same rights that hetero-sexuals have. It most certainly is a referendum on gay people. It is trying to make sure that the nation never allows them to have the same rights as heteros. Heteros are allowed to marry the person they love, and recieve legal considerations for that. Homosexuals can not. Bush wants that to be part of our constitution. the 'Uniter' is doing his best to create a division. It is bigoted.
So what's next? Are you in favor of allowing brothers and sisters to get married? Are you going to deny them that right? You must be bigoted against brothers and sisters, then.
I think this play should only be used once every 4 years. It would suck for the GOP if this thing actually went through. They would be reduced to the flag-burning trick play. Abortion ban seems to be a double-edged sword so that's out.
What about gay divorce ?? Would that strengthen, or deminish the sanctity of marriage?? This is all so confusing. I blame Hollywood.
Bigtexxx just changed my mind. Without this amendment my wife might divorce me for my dog and try and marry her instead. They are both females, I need some protection from that. Thanks for the enlightenment.
Who was it that said they didn't care if gays got married because they should have the right to be just as miserable as straight people?
I have to say this is probably the best suggestion here. Marriage isn't a federal issue but a state issue and should remain one.
Criminalize divorce and adultery, and I will support your ban on gay marriage amendment. Lets really protect the sanctity of marriage.
on that note, i find it ironic that a 3 times divorcee like limbaugh will rally on about "traditional" marriage in regards to the gay marriage issue. i didnt know divorce was part of tradition? but this is also the same guy who said all drug addicts should be put in prison, while he himself is a drug addict and was abusing at the very time he said this. this is such an obvious political ploy and even the bigot evangelicals are seeing thru it this time. they know bush is just blowing hot air for political points.
Problem is is that they don't care! They see through it and still endorse it. This is a clip of Joe Scarborough on the Today show this morning. http://www.rawstory.com/news/2006/Scarborough_Everybody_knows_Bush_pandering_on_0605.html
So you could be a married couple in California....but not in Georgia? Very interesting. If you move from a place where you were legally married, to one in which you are not...have you divorced? Or are you simply on a break?
