Hmm... I don't agree, though this seems rather trivial. Free speech itself is a shining example of the liberties we enjoy here, while the act of booing, to me, is an example of ill-advised use of that liberty.

Uhh... that is kind of the point, you either have free speech or you don't.

We do, its beautiful, from the uplifting sermons to the verses of great songs... and yes, even the booing of a president or a ball game, or worse yet, some of the posts by people in the D&D..

Actually, it's more about when people are given the rights to free speech, they usually tend to focus on the crap. The US has the most free media in the world. So what do we see on the news everyday? Crimes, scandals, cash prize giveaways...

So in fact, this is indeed a great example of what free speech brings to a society.

Wait, so hate speech is beautiful? My point is that the fact that we have the right to free speech does not preclude certain forms of expression from being inappropriate. In my opinion, booing the President at a meaningless ceremony is inappropriate. It makes opponents of Bush (myself included) come off as immature and tactless, and it is a distraction from any constructive political discourse.

For all the casualties of this stupid war,

For the death squads and in illegal wars by his father in central america,

and for the future lives that will be taken, when Jorge P bush becomes president...

    boos are well deserving.

It's not fair that barry bonds gets syringes thrown at him =/

    Boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(If Bush and the people who are currently running our government had shown any interest in constructive political discourse, I might weigh your words with more consideration. Eh, probably not. To boo is American. If you're not a Repub, it's the cheering at funerals that'll get you in trouble.)

I think it's disrespectful to boo anyone who serves his country, but that's just me. Whether you like him or not, he serves this country. To boo him, imo, is saying you don't appreciate that. I wonder - would the boos turn to applause had he been assassinated right then, on the field?

The next time would be the first...

I would never boo my own President, no matter how I feel about him/her. Just like I would never boo any player on my team. Worst I would do is just sit on my hands. It should be about the office, not the man.

if you call his presidency service, then i think we'd all be better off without it. the last 8 years have been a massive net loss on every level, unless you are super rich and have no soul.

my cousin went to that game. according to him, most of the cheering came from the bottom (where all the rich people are). he had dugout seats and said the rich white folks around him were cheering, but there were a lot more boo's

I think a lot people elected him to serve the people. Some are feeling he ended up serving himself and his firends. That's why they booed.

So if Rockets didn't budge on Pippen, forced him to play a second season with the Rockets and he clearly showed he wasn't going to change his ways or views, you wouldn't have booed Pippen?

I was at the game, and I could definitely hear the boos, but I looked at the people around me that I could see and most seemed to be cheering/clapping. Maybe the "boo-birds" were just more loud and obnoxious.

Besides, DC/Northern Virginia/Maryland is one of the most liberal areas in the country...what else would you expect? If he was throwing out the first pitch in Houston there would have been quite a big difference.

A sad event for all involved, but his arm did look good for his age.
