Wow. Abysmal numbers across the board for Bush. So, during his tenure, Bush had the highest ratings in history and now the 3rd lowest. I doubt there has ever been such a sharp swing to the negative. I suspect some (like most of the pro votes from Repubs) of the numbers for the Dems are inflated beyond what would typically be the norm because the Bush administration is so bad rational people can't stomach supporting them anymore. In other words, this goes beyond normal Repub/Dem differences... that's why anyone predicting 2008 based on what happened in 2004 or 2000 is way off base.

The poll data can be found here... http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/politics/polls/postpoll_012007.htm

(And by the way, Pelosi is more popular.)

Actually, I think George H. had a similar swing. I can't recall correctly but I thin he had 80% or 90% approval after the Gulf War and finished like in the low 40's or even high 30's after the recession came on.

I think he went from 80 to 40.

W fell from the low 90's to the low 30's.

I guess Truman currently edges out W by a point or two... mid 80's the day he took office down to the low 20's.

However, I get the feeling W isn't done yet. I look for his numbers to drop a little more after the SOTU.

It got down to 29% in very early 1992.

HW lost re-election with 56% approval rating. First time in history that had happened (with >50% approval).
