Not only that, but even if other countries dont follow our lead, there's still an incentive to comply by the geneva conventions. During WWII, allied commanders noted that following the geneva convention encouraged more enemy surrenders and lead to greater cooperation in regards to intelligence gathering from POWs. Also, as word spread that the allies were respecting the rule of law regarding POWs, many germans didn't bother fighting and just quit because they knew their rights would be guaranteed.
Damn, basso, I was going to use that in the Favorite Album Covers thread in Hangout, but figured it wouldn't get past the mods. You're totally wrong about the issue, of course, and you should give some of us an apology for just general confusing bull**** output, as well as Bush giving America an apology for much worse than that, but kudos for the Blind Faith album cover. I saw them play at the old Houston Music Hall, during what must have been their only tour... promoting that LP. Needless to say, the concert was amazing! I was with an older, and much better looking chick, however. That was a great night. Keep D&D Civil.
Not trying to creep anyone out, but I had a girlfriend for about a year who had long, wavy red hair (everywhere!), and looked remarkably like an older, better looking version of this chick on the LP. She was a commercial artist, and a terror in the sack. (maybe I should have said an artist in the sack??) I always thought the resemblance was freaky. I still have that LP, btw. It got pulled, but not before I bought it. Keep D&D Civil.
Basso is correct on one regard. The electorate that put GW Bush in office does share much of the blame for reelecting him. Are supporters of GW Bush crying that they were duped now? Heck a lot of people were saying stuff like this was and will happen 4 years ago, it seemed pretty obvious to me. I can understand voters how share the same opinion as Powell feeling duped for voting for GW Bush in 2000 but in 2004? Did you not believe the reports that the Admin. was having people tortured and that secretly violating civil liberties?
Terror in the sack! Right on! What the world needs now is love, sweet love It's the only thing that there's just too little of What the world needs now is love, sweet love, No not just for some but for everyone. Lord, we don't need another mountain, There are mountains and hillsides enough to climb There are oceans and rivers enough to cross, Enough to last till the end of time. What the world needs now is love, sweet love It's the only thing that there's just too little of What the world needs now is love, sweet love, No, not just for some but for everyone. Lord, we don't need another meadow There are cornfields and wheat fields enough to grow There are sunbeams and moonbeams enough to shine Oh listen, lord, if you want to know. What the world needs now is love, sweet love It's the only thing that there's just too little of What the world needs now is love, sweet love, No, not just for some but for everyone. No, not just for some, oh, but just for everyone. Keep D&D Civil, and grab love where you can find it.
i hate this administration as much as anyone but to realistically expect an apology is foolish. governments generally dont apologize. especially not when they're in the middle of the action they'd apologize for.
BASSO Eric Clapton is JJ CALES b**** and Steve Winwood is not back in the high life again, he's janitor at the Shanghai Noodle Factory in SF. People who supported this war and now can't admit they were wrong are the reason there is such passive agressive division in America.
I THINK the reason there is PASSIVE AGGRESSIVE DIVISION in AMERICA is some people CONSTANTLY capitalize ENTIRE words in HALF their POST and make my EYES HURT.
But the fact is: The United States of America DOES kill innocent women and children to acheive it's objectives. This is a fact, not an opinion. Do you dispute the fact?
You misread the quote, I think. I believe the author is saying 'we don't kill them to achieve objectives' meaning we don't target women and children because it will help our cause. In other words, the terrorists use the killing of women and children as a legitimate means to their end.
That surely is what Bush meant, but I am going strickly by the language he is using. But we are being a bit moralistic I think in judging all of this. I don't have any desire to defend terrorism...but is what these extremists do any worse then what our military AT THE END OF THE DAY does? I mean, our military kills many many more women and children then have been killed by terrorists. In order to achieve our objectives in Iraq, we knew much civilian life could be lost. We went forward anyway. So what's the difference? Does someone care whether they were killed in a terrorist attack or by a bomb over their house? Is one to be forgiven but not the other? I think invading Afganistan was the right thing to do. But Iraq? People seem more miserable today then before. We overthrew Saddam and created a gross mess for a bunch of lies? And this man can say he is better then a terrorist? Bush terrorizes the world. I sleep less safetly at night because of Bush. I feel the future of my country and every human being on this planet has been made less safe because of the actions of George W. Bush. So, maybe what the U.S. does isn't compariable...but what Bush does is. Bush is responsible for far more innocent blood then Bin Laden. Innocent blood that didn't have to be spilt. We could have left Iraq alone and focused on making Afganistan a model to the Islamic world. We could have focused resolving Israel-Palestine. Now we just added a huge mess to the whole thing. Thanks a lot Bush. Thanks for wreaking my country and the world. You owe 6 billion people more then apology, you should be imprisoned for treason. Because the lies and actions you took are a complete betrayel to your employer and your country....and you made us less safe. You put your personal agenda ahead of national security. That is treason in my book.
I keep trying to refocus my thoughts on the red-head in the sack, but I keeping drifting back to Deckard. Yuk!
Ain't my fault! edit: realized it was the Sam Houston Coliseum where I saw Blind Faith. I had great seats, which was why they sounded so good. Delaney and Bonnie opened for them. It was late August, 1969... not long after Woodstock, and about a week or so before I went to the Texas International Pop Festival, outside of Dallas. Blind Faith played some Cream and Traffic songs, as well as all the stuff from the LP. I heard they were having personality clashes, but I remember the concert as being great. Man, there was a tremendous amount of great music that summer. Keep D&D Civil.
I am still unable to comprehend the wholly depressing notion of the Unites States Congress debating how much torture is acceptable. It's unbelievable. Bush has ruined this country. Which says something about his supporters...
