The sad, sobering fact is that the Bush Administration's monumental bungling has put the US into a no-win situation in Iraq. basso's right, that when we pull out it will be perceived as a victory, in part, for Al-Qaeda specifically and muslim extremism generally. However, this is the less bad of some very bad options. We cannot impose a stable (much less democratic) society on Iraq. We completely f-ed it up (that was the easy part) but we can't fix it. If we stay, the bloody civil war will continue, if we leave the bloody civil war will continue. The difference is- If we stay there will be more dead US soldiers, a longer time period before the power balance in Iraq shakes out, and the continued existence of a recruiting center and training ground for anti-US islamic terrorists. It is a tragedy in the fullest sense of the word, and people like basso deserve a large part of the blame.
Common cause with him? Do you favor staying in Iraq? If you do, you are making common cause with Bin Laden. rhadamanthus' post was more of a warning, than it was common cause. I'm sure you knew that, but are just practicing your spin for fun.
The funny thing is that I have TJ on ignore. Bizarrely, I think reading transcripts from interviews with OBL is more enlightening regarding the "war on terror" than any of TJ's nonsensical and inflammatory drivel. Well, actually that's not at all bizarre, considering that it is nonsensical and inflammatory drivel.
You hit the nail on the head jorge. <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/-X-fDqQ-Xcc"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/-X-fDqQ-Xcc" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> Those who quote them in order to sow fear and terror are the best friends terrorists could ever have, that is why Al Qaeda groups endorsed Bush last go round.
By all means though, let me quote "the decider" in deference to his awe-inspiring truthiness. "Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we." -George W. Bush
Don't fear if your "skillset" precludes you from actual military service. You can always take part in Operation Yellow Elephant. General tj Captain basso Private burzmali I hear each is up for the Lavender Heart. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a b!tch.
All partisian bickering aside... Is Iraq such a monumental clusterf#$% that we will still be there in 5-10 years, or if we leave will we have to come back? As Powell said... it's our baby now. -- The terrorist win if Democrats do? Do you people actually read the words you type or do you find that you drift in and out?

Some good quotes by Bush in his interview with Hannity and a comment or two by me... Profound. What? What's the job and when will it be done? Don't two negatives = a positive? So the pessimists are optimists or is it the optimistic view that we can't succeed? It's a good thing people didn't have a lot of kids in that negative post-WWII environment. Something like a President with a clue? So did we help or did the British find? (The British found.) And why would Britain want to find people that were getting on airplanes to protect us? Haven't we gone through about 20 "number-three guys?" Did you know we got Zarqawi? http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,226406,00.html
It is time to get out the carving knife on Iraq. Partioning it is the only solution after the clusterf**k the Bush administration has created.
