Laura Welch was involved in a tragic traffic accident at the age of 17 in Midland, Texas. http://www.freerepublic.com/forum/a3910efa008f6.htm
It was a car accident that ended in a fatality. It was an accident. I hope you never have one... in related news... Didn't Kerry shoot men in the back? Then come home and stab their opposition in the back?
Arnold was great, first time I had heard him speak live. Great job. The twins were about what I expected. I was reported their speech went through several drafts and the key was they wanted to keep it light. Again you can't expect much out of young ladies. They weren't stars butt hey didn't break anything. Laura Bush did well. She came off as a real person. All in all a good night. The mythical Super-Hero of Arnold stole the show though. I will say tonight concerns me especially Cheney and his speech. Hopefully he can bring his "A" game.
The title of this thread is called Bush girls. Not official day2 thread. I don't care that you changed the subject, because their isn't all that much to say on it, but I will make it clear that it isn't the official day 2 thread. Also I wasn't aware that the Swiftboat vets were part of day2 of RNC. I'm glad that you admit that Bush and the swiftboat ads are connected, though. I thank you for your honesty.
Kerry was at war and the man had a rocket launcher and had been shooting at Kerry's troops. Kerry risked his life to beach the boat and chase the man down, and kill him. It is called a war. Sometimes people shoot people in those things. Especially when that person is trying to kill him and his crewmates.
Arnold's speech: True Lies SNL skit Terminator Terminator/Running Man I don't care about his politics, this guy needs to stop making up words and referencing his movie career. We all know you were movie star, Arnold, now start acting like a governor. The Republicans are pretty good at what they do. They have a family of multi-generational elitist millionaires and they continually hammer home the "folksy" angle. And it works. On the twins - they were horrible (not saying ineffective for their purpose). Whoever coached them and practiced with them needs to be fired. I don't care if they are "only" 22, they should be able to learn not to repeat the same annoying giggle after every sentencethey say...even the ones that were not supposed to be funny. Laura did much better than she did four years ago. Well, I was going to vote for Bush until his daughters went up there. Now I am not so sure.
the bush twins came off like a couple dim-witted, superficial airheads. they had no buisness being up there. it was embarrasing. that being said, i am mighty impressed w/ the republican convention so far. so much more organized and focused than the democrats. they are doing a much better job of coming to the middle to attract the swing voters. i know its all an act, but its very well done. the republicans did the same thing in 2000, as far as trying to present themselves as moderates. once elected they will go back to their self-ritous, ultra-christian conservative agenda. if the democrats had their crap together half as well as the republicans they would be running away with this election.
The girls werent great, but its not that big of a deal to me. I thought they served a purpose just as JK`s daughters did. I thought Arnold did a great job and overall the convention has been fun to watch
didn't see laura's speech, and i thought the twins were, quite frankly, embarrassing. whoever wrote their speech and coached them should be taken out to dick stockton's woodshed. the sex and the city comment was kinda...uncomfortable. actually, i turned it off half way through, maybe they rallied at the end, but they really came off as clueless, dense, and w/o ambition. Arnold's speech was great, and i thought his references to his own persona really worked- loved the "terminate john kerry" and "economic girlie men" lines. speech of the night though, for me, was richard steele's, a black republican, lt gov. of maryland. it was only on cable, so if you tuned in at 11 for AS, you missed it. there were a surprising number of minorities in the hall, at least as shown on pbs. he was eloquent, passionate, and had a great line about (paraphrasing) "john kerry says 'war' isn't a word he wants to use to describe the fight against terror. well, 'commander-in-chief' isn'a word i want to use to describe john kerry!" ouch!
I completely agree with you, and I'll go you one further: If Bill Clinton were running against GWB in 2004, he would be 20 points ahead. Kerry had better gain focus...fast.
one more thing about arnold's speech: was this the start of an effort to rehabilitate richard nixon? you could almost feel the nervousness in the hall when he brought nixon up, and nixon's the reason arnold's a republican! amazing!
Nixon's rehabilitation began with the books he wrote during the last ten or so years of his life. Have you read any of them? Fascinating studies of geopolitics and foreign relations...if you are into that sort of thing. Nixon and Clinton to me were equals on opposite sides of the playing field. Both would have gone down in history as great Presidents had it not been for their own personality/behavioral problems that screwed up their Presidencies.
not sure about that. even excepting watergate, nixon had six more years of vietnam and the expansion of the war into cambodia on his watch. the opening of china was a positive, as well as some of his domestic reforms. i struggle with clinton, and ultimately, even putting aside monica and impeachment, i think he'll go down as one of the great disappointments. a man of such immense political skill, elected twice with significant majorities, yet accomplished very little.
