You left out Sullivan's comment, which I found priceless. The words of a Republican who's party has left him. He says it better...

It turns out that the arguments of The Conservative Soul have gained much more traction since I wrote it. The disarray of the GOP primary season, the collapse in Republican fund-raising, the almost hilarious attempts of the sectarian religious base to find a candidate saintly enough (but not a Mormon, thanks!), and the complete contempt for fiscal conservatism championed by Gerson, Rove and Bush have all made an impact. The Wall Street Journal provides the raw data today, and a new mantra that will define a generation. I didn't leave the Republican party. It left me.

No, but Stanford is. And TCU is superior to UNT, UT-Arlington, UT-Dallas, and whatever other state schools that it competes directly against. (And that's coming from a proud graduate of a state university.)

look up ivy league first. or since you are in cali, try standford. or even harvey mudd.

pick a state, and if it's a state of any consquence, there's a private university that rocks over the major public one.

    Rice > UT
    Upenn > Penn State
    Princeton > Rutgers
    Columbia/NYU > any NYC college...or saracuse
    Harvard > BU
    U of C / Northwestern >> U of I
    Duke > UNC
    Yale > UConn
    Wash U > U Missouri
John Hopkins > Georgetown or Terps
    Vanderbilt > UT

And lets face it, you can get a much better education at most small liberal arts colleges (private) then even universities such as UMich. I mean, the big public universities get some funding advantages, but the average class is a joke academically.

There are always exceptions, just like some magnet schools will beat the parochial - but this is the end result.

When you allow competition, you end up with a tiered system, where some get the best, but the bottom get subpar. But socializing any system means everyone gets and equally uninspiring service.

That's the dem solution to health care. Frankly, that not the american way.

of the many reasons why this post is pathetic, let me first state that BU is a private school, as is Georgetown.

Whatever, BU > BC, and Georgetown is still better than U Maryland.

The only pathetic thing is your failure to admit that had our university system been completely socialized we'd likely wouldn't be known for American Innovation.

    Harvard > BU > BC > UMass.

the point is the public school is at the bottom. but clearly you're an idiot savant when it comes to knowing which uni's are public versus private. that or you have some serious free time on your hands. congrats.

Hmm, no pretty much everybody with a modicum of info knows that BC is a catholic school and hence private...in fact there's a fair amount of BC alumni in the New York City area (do you live in new york? )....it really doesn't take a savant.

Did you graduate from a public school? Or as you would call it, a "socialized" school (so many things wrong with that statement..wow)

    Scratch that.

    Did you graduate?

I don't keep track of which school is for jesuits and which is for whatever. only you would miss the entire point and focus on the stuff you do. You're not interested in thinking of socialize instiutions versus their capitalistic counterparts.

No, you just like firing of attacks to boost up your ego. Doesn't matter where you graduated from (if you did) one thing is clear, you could benefit by seeing what you are doing with trying to siderail discussions for your own petty ego plays.

Sammy Fish, you aren't ever going to get under my skin by suggesting I went to a poor school or that I'm some how not educated. That sort of stuff just shows how little and weak you are. And frankly, I'd never insult anyone by saying they went to UMASS. I may not be a product of the public university system, but I still don't hold does that graduate from public univesities as inferior people.

That's just plan arrogance on your part. Next you know you'll suggest I went to UH and say I'm inferior to you for doing that. That's just wrong. Get off your liberal intellectual high horse.

Wow so you overpaid for a crap private school like Hofstra when you coud have gone to UMass? Or did you go to a school and not know that it was public or private like you had trouble before???

Talk about mistakes, I feel sorry for your poor parents who had to foot the bill.....what did you major in? Obviously we can rule out Political Science since you don't understand what socialism is.

Was it the Law of Conservation of Mass/Energy? Because you have had trouble with that too...

What on earth does the value of public versus private universities have to do with healthcare? Most importantly, healthcare for children who aren't getting it today, and had a bill that would have increased the numbers that would be able to get healthcare by a big percentage, and largely be paid for by a hike in the cigarette tax?

Bush is an idiotic goofus. He truly is either demented, suffering from too many powders up his nose and booze down his throat when younger, has had a mental breakdown or, in my opinion, become the living embodiment of the Peter Principal. A pathetic figure who was raised to a position far above that which he might have been qualified for... goofer for daddy's millionaire buddies, and water carrier for Bob Bullock, who ran the state while Junior was governor.

To stay on track, Texas is either at, or within a couple of spots of having the largest number of uninsured children in the 50 United States. Millions upon millions of Federal tax dollars going to Washington from Texas that could have returned as matching funds for these programs, and also programs such as those to assist the elderly, are being given to other states, because our top state government officials, the Governor, Lt. Governor, the Speaker, and the GOP controlled legislature are grossly incompetent. The regular state employees attempt to do the best they can with ever shrinking funds, while not getting pay increases for years, and having their benefits slashed, while the Governor goes globe trotting with his rich buddies, figuring out the best way to sell the average Texas family down the river.

    D&D. Impeach Bush and Perry.

Once you move into Universities you really are talking even less govt. control of public Universities than in k-12. As others have pointed out calling that socialized education makes no sense.

I assumed we were talking about K-12. As I pointed out that is still mostly controlled by the states and isn't really socialized either.

no, it's the same four or five idiots on this board and it's been going for a couple of years. clearly they have personal problems that have manifested into some weird obsessive issue with me and thus strike up something on every thread because they are more interested in trying to go after me like a rabid dog and don't care about derailing every thread and ruining D&D for everyone else.

mc mark, king cheetah, sam fishcher, batman jones, gifford: I challenge you guys to elevate the level of discourse and stop wasting everyone's time with your weird obsession with me. Let it go. I know I drive you guys crazy and you can't take it, but for the sake of everyone else, get over it and stop trying to get into a pissing contest with me on everything. It's so stupid and you just make us all look bad.

still, public universities are more controlled by gov't then private, and private instituitions have much higher standards of excellence.

Even K-12, private schools crush a public school education.
